The Senior Major Gifts Officer is a member of the Institutional Advancement (IA) team focused on developing philanthropic resources for the Colleges and Schools. This role plays a central role in high-capacity major gift fundraising and contributes to the enhancement of planned gifts, reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President, Development.

Responsibilities

  • Secures major and planned gifts and develops future major donors by pursuing the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private support from individuals capable of making commitments of $50,000-$100,000 or more.
  • Develops detailed strategies and monthly goals for the top 25 prospects.
  • Manages a portfolio of approximately 125 constituents from multiple territories across the country.
  • Maintains an active schedule of face-to-face and virtual meetings with major and planned gift suspects and prospects.
  • Works in conjunction with the Assistant Vice President to develop and execute a territory-based fundraising model.
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Vice President and the Office of Alumni Relations to foster activities that contribute to a culture of philanthropy in the colleges and schools.
  • Assists in the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of principal gifts prospects and donors ($1,000,000 or more) in association with the Assistant Vice President and the Principal Gifts team.
  • Partners with Institutional Advancement’s Office of Gift Planning to develop specific Gift Planning opportunities and prospects.
  • Represents the Colleges and Schools at Legacy Lunches in coordination with the Senior Associate Vice President.
  • Increases the pipeline of prospects moving up in gift level and contribution amount.
  • Develops capital support through naming opportunities.
  • Works with Institutional Advancement Marketing and Communications Team to develop fundraising proposals as appropriate.
  • Promotes University priorities and image to constituents, serving as frontline staff to advance campus goals and objectives.
  • Maintains current knowledge of university-wide institutional priorities and collaborates across colleges, schools, and units to align opportunities with donor objectives, passion, and interest.
  • Follows Institutional Advancement procedures regarding prospect management and documenting contacts.
  • Oversees and submits all relevant fundraising reports, statistics, projections, and publications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of successful experience in development and major gift fundraising, preferably in a higher education or health system setting.
  • Experience with direct solicitation of five- and six-figure gifts from individuals.
  • Ability and willingness to travel/drive regionally on a frequent basis.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree and coursework in subjects relevant to Business.
  • Knowledgeable of planned giving concepts and experience in soliciting planned gifts.
  • Previous experience working with senior-level executives.
  • Knowledge of prospect management systems.
  • Knowledge of database fundraising software CS Advance.

Pay

Compensation for this position ranges from $99,720 - $149,580 per year, based on qualifications, experience, department budget, and internal equity review.

Schedule

This is a hybrid position requiring travel to campus as needed, including events, internal meetings, and donor meetings.
