About the role
The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is seeking a Senior Machinist Technician to join the 12th Maintenance Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio – Randolph AFB, Texas. This is a full-time federal position offering a rewarding career with exceptional pay and benefits.
Responsibilities
- Provides guidance and assigns immediate tasks to be performed.
- Demonstrates proper work methods and procedures by coordinating with other personnel.
- Works as an expert to analyze, troubleshoot, and perform all aspects of a machinist leader.
- Routinely visits all repairs and checks quality work while in progress and demonstrates proper work methods if needed.
- Manufactures complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials through the use of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools, and precision handwork.
- Sets up and operates a variety of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, and universal milling machines; shapers; planers; internal and external grinders; thread cutters; and radial drills to accomplish untried tasks, procedures, and prototypes.
- Guides and motivates employees to streamline processes and design/create repairs for all assigned aircraft. Coordinates with aircraft engineers to determine the best solution to repair aircraft discrepancies.
- Creates an atmosphere of partnership with customers properly reflecting Maintenance Directorate policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- US Citizenship is required.
- The employee will be required to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
- This is a drug testing position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
- May be required to occasionally work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, and weekends on a very rare basis.
- The traditional shift for this vacancy is Monday through Friday, dayshift hours.
- The work will require the employee to drive a government motor vehicle. An appropriate government driver's license and the ability to determine color vision for runway operations (red, green, and white) will be required.
- 2-4 years of CNC programmer and/or operator experience at a minimum is highly desirable. Must be able to operate CNC and other typical machining equipment.
