Senior Machinist

Muon seeks a Senior Machinist to join our team in San Jose, CA. You'll own the machined parts the engineering teams depend on for testing and flight, serving as the embedded point of contact between engineering and the machine shop. This position is fully on-site at our San Jose office, five days per week.

About the role

You’ll be the named point of contact for components as they move from CAD to finished parts. Design reviews on Tuesday, dialing in fixturing on Wednesday, owning first-article inspection on Friday.

Responsibilities

• Program and operate CNC mills and lathes for flight components.
• Participate in testing and tooling design reviews to flag manufacturability and tolerance issues early.
• Develop fixturing, tooling, and processes to produce tooling faster and more efficiently.
• Own first-article and in-process QC for hardware.
• Document via MES; write non-conformance tickets; maintain traceability.
• Train shop team and engineers on tooling and component-specific machining processes.

Requirements

• 5+ years machining for aerospace, medical, or other high-precision industries.
• Programming 3- and 5-axis CNC mills; CAM (Fusion 360, MasterCAM, or similar).
• Haas controller experience & Fanuc.
• Strong metrology fundamentals; comfortable with inspection tools.
• Comfortable with brittle materials (graphite, composites, ceramics).
• U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected individual (ITAR).
• Able to achieve security level clearance if needed.

Skills

• Matsuura, Yasda, and Haas experience (nice-to-have).
• CMM programming (nice-to-have).
• Tooling, test lab & class 7+ cleanroom experience (nice-to-have).
• Exotic alloys, graphite, or brittle-material machining experience (nice-to-have).

Pay

The salary range for this role is $58 - $65 per hour, plus a competitive equity grant. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
