Senior Loss Control Consultant (Field) - Oklahoma City/Tulsa
About the role
This field-based position provides consultation and training to employers on safety matters, developing business partnerships and ambassador-type relationships with insured policyholders. You will evaluate physical premises, equipment, materials, work practices, and safety policies and programs, conducting safety surveys to assist in risk selection as part of the underwriting process. The role requires travel within an assigned market/territory, with residency in or near the designated market.
Responsibilities
- Identify hazardous conditions and unsafe acts, assisting clients in reducing or eliminating risks.
- Review business processes and operations, recommending best safety practices.
- Research and analyze technical information, specifications, equipment, legal standards, and losses.
- Write and summarize technical information into practical, usable reports.
- Train and present to customers on loss prevention and safety topics in internal and external meetings.
- Gather and communicate safety information to assist in underwriting risk selection.
- Assist customers in developing accident/loss prevention and safety programs.
- Monitor and measure the effectiveness of customer programs, corrective actions, and meetings.
- Manage a territory of assigned accounts, ensuring appropriate service levels based on premium and employer size.
- Coordinate policyholder visits with Business Development, agents, and Claims.
- Assist in developing safety brochures, materials, and exhibits for promotion.
- Represent the company in community and industry safety groups, programs, and conferences.
- Maintain strong relationships with independent agents to discuss client loss control reports and recommendations.
- Demonstrate progressive responsibility, resolving complex problems with broader impact.
- Contribute to cross-functional teams, potentially taking a leadership role.
- Develop recommendations to change existing policies/programs.
- Provide training, development, and mentoring to loss control staff.
- Operate monitoring equipment, including noise and air sampling devices and photographic equipment.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a related field and certification (e.g., ARM, ASP, CSP) required; Bachelor’s degree in occupational/industrial safety or related field preferred.
- Minimum seven years of relevant experience, with Workers Compensation insurance experience required.
- Knowledge of loss control standards, ergonomics, machine guarding, and environmental health.
- Extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations, including state-specific occupational safety and workers’ disability compensation acts.
- Ability to proactively identify, analyze, and mitigate risk factors, influencing necessary change.
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficiency in computers and company-specific software for report analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with effective presentation abilities.
- Ability to provide customer service and respond to inquiries from agents, policyholders, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to work independently from a home office with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license with a record meeting corporate standards.
- Ability to meet general physical requirements, including climbing ladders or similar tasks.
Pay
A reasonable estimate for this role is between $85,000 and $135,000, with actual compensation based on internal equity, skills, experience, geographic location, and other factors.
Schedule
Work is performed in a virtual office and field setting, with travel required (including occasional overnight stays).
