About the role

Merrill Gardens at Hillsboro is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support residents within the community. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with seniors and committed to providing an atmosphere that values individualism and dignity.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance projects as scheduled or assigned, including installations and repairs involving plumbing and electrical equipment, fire and sprinkler equipment, H.V.A.C., landscape, carpentry work, painting, and equipment repair.
  • Ensure that walls, floor coverings, doors, windows, furniture, woodwork in the common areas of the community are properly maintained and repaired.
  • Repair and maintain vacated rooms in a timely manner which includes painting walls and cleaning carpets.
  • Responsible for all in-house plumbing, e.g. sinks, toilets and bathtubs.
  • Responsible for minor electrical work within units and in common areas, e.g. light switches, wall outlets, garbage disposals, etc.
  • Responsible for painting of all apartments and common areas.
  • Repair, clean and maintain all carpet, floor coverings and furniture.
  • Responsible for completing all work orders in a timely manner – noting any other work completed at the location but not listed on work order.
  • Document safety issues as well as physical plan deficiencies related to local, county, state and federal guidelines.
  • Aid in preventative maintenance and cleaning of the community vehicles (buses and cars, vans).
  • Assist with training and development of safety procedures and hazard communications.
  • Responds immediately and appropriately to all accidents and emergencies, based on established protocol.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • (Must be at least 18 years of age).
  • 1-3 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, floor care, heating and HVAC skills.
  • Prior knowledge of fire suppression & irrigation systems is preferred.
  • Motor vehicle maintenance ability is preferred.
  • Flexible and must be able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Physical Requirements

This role involves frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 90 lbs), pushing/pulling, and other physical activities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
