About the role
The Senior Litigation Paralegal role at Spiva Law Group is an integral part of our commitment to delivering exceptional legal services. This position exists to directly support our skilled trial attorneys in the diligent handling of personal injury cases, ensuring that every client receives the comprehensive legal care they deserve. By effectively managing discovery processes, preparing for trial, and maintaining clear communication with clients, the person in this role will significantly contribute to the impactful resolutions our firm is known for. This position promises a deeply rewarding experience, working with clients and lawyers to navigate the complexities of serious injury litigation.
Responsibilities
- Case Management: Handle an active litigation docket of approximately 25 cases, adjusting to the complexity of each.
- Discovery Coordination: Manage end-to-end discovery processes, including gathering records, drafting discovery requests, and organizing responses.
- Trial Support: Assist in depositions, trial preparation, and courtroom support, occasionally involving extended hours.
- Client Communication: Serve as a compassionate point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and collecting vital case information.
- Deadline Tracking: Maintain strict oversight of all case deadlines, ensuring timely filings and responses.
- Attorney Collaboration: Work closely with two litigation attorneys, providing substantive support for complex personal injury cases.
- Technology: Use the firm's case management systems while adapting to evolving technology and workflows.
Qualifications & Skills
- Litigation Experience: 5–10 years of personal injury litigation experience preferred; candidates with 3–5 years gained at a reputable litigation or trial firm will also be considered. Experience with catastrophic injury cases is highly preferred.
- Trial Firm Background: Experience supporting a reputable plaintiff-side litigation or trial firm with substantive litigation responsibilities beyond intake or high-volume settlements.
- Educational Background: Paralegal degree (ABA-approved preferred); bachelor's degree is advantageous.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills; experience with case management software like Needles or Neos preferred.
- Language Skills: Spanish fluency is a strong advantage.
- Medical Knowledge: Clinical background or strong familiarity with medical records and terminology is highly preferred.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail in managing case files.
- Independent Contributor: Able to step into an active litigation practice with minimal supervision and little to no onboarding on core litigation responsibilities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Compassionate, patient communicator who can professionally support clients through some of the most difficult moments of their lives while maintaining composure under pressure.
