About the role

The Senior Litigation Counsel will lead litigation and regulatory enforcement strategy for Block's complex and high-profile matters. This role requires a seasoned litigator with a blend of strategic judgment and a pragmatic business orientation, working in a fast-paced but collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy for significant litigation and regulatory enforcement matters from pre-litigation through resolution
  • Advise senior leadership on legal risk, enforcement trends, and business impact, particularly in areas affecting fintech, payments, and data use
  • Manage and partner closely with outside counsel to drive high-quality, efficient outcomes
  • Personally engage on critical aspects of matters, including legal strategy, discovery, and key filings
  • Handle complex disputes across areas such as class actions, commercial litigation, privacy, and consumer protection
  • Work closely with other Counsel teams (Policy, Product, Regulatory, and Corporate) to align on risk and strategy
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Engineering, Compliance, and Risk to proactively identify and mitigate issues, consistent with business priorities

Requirements

  • J.D. and active bar membership
  • 10+ years of litigation experience at a leading law firm, government agency, or in-house
  • Experience leading complex litigation and/or regulatory enforcement matters; bonus for deep securities litigation experience
  • Expertise in areas such as class actions, commercial disputes, privacy, and/or financial regulatory enforcement issues
  • Experience in litigation for a public company, including financial reporting, audit, and governance obligations
  • Strong judgment and the ability to translate legal risk into practical business guidance
  • Exceptional collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across legal disciplines and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • AI-first perspective, with interest in building and leveraging AI-driven tools for litigation management, discovery, and related workflows.

Qualifications

While not specified, candidates should have a strong background in litigation and regulatory enforcement, with experience in areas relevant to fintech, payments, and data use. Experience in securities litigation is a plus.

Pay

Starting pay ranges from $276,800 to $415,200 USD, depending on location and experience. Zone A includes U.S. locations in California, New York, Texas, and Washington.
