Senior Litigation Construction Liability Claims Representative
About the Role
This position is responsible for investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating and resolving assigned Specialty Liability Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims under general supervision. The role provides quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle, including customer contacts, coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation management, negotiation, and resolution. The position also serves as a consulting and training resource, and a technical contact for the field and business partners.
This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule, allowing employees to work up to 2 days per week at their primary residence. Additionally, this role is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000.
Responsibilities
- Directly handle assigned severity claims.
- Provide quality customer service and ensure timely coverage analysis and communication with insured based on policy information.
- Consult with Manager on use of Claim Coverage Counsel as needed.
- Investigate each claim through prompt and strategically-appropriate contact with policyholders, claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, agents, medical providers, and technical experts.
- Interview witnesses and stakeholders; take necessary statements as strategically appropriate.
- Engage in the identification, selection, and direction of internal and external resources for claim evaluation (e.g., Subrogation, Risk Control, nurse consultants, fraud investigators).
- Verify the nature and extent of injury or property damage by obtaining and reviewing records and documentation.
- Maintain claim files and document activities in accordance with established procedures.
- Utilize evaluation documentation tools and adhere to department guidelines.
- Proactively create Claim File Analysis (CFA) by adhering to quality standards.
- Use diary management system to ensure timely handling of claims.
- Evaluate liability and damages exposure at required intervals.
- Establish and maintain proper indemnity and expense reserves.
- Recommend appropriate cases for roundtable discussion.
- Attend and/or present at roundtables for collaboration and improved claim resolution.
- Share experience and knowledge of creative resolution techniques.
- Apply the Company's claim quality management protocols and Best Practices.
- Develop and employ creative resolution strategies for claims disposition.
- Negotiate disposition of claims with insureds, claimants, or their legal representatives.
- Implement alternate means of resolution.
- Manage litigated claims, including developing litigation plans with counsel and controlling legal expenses.
- Effectively manage both allocated and unallocated loss adjustment expenses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Degree or GED.
- 3 years of liability claim handling experience and/or comparable litigation claim experience.
- Acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements (generally required within three months of starting the job).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or 5 years of equivalent business experience.
- Advanced level knowledge and skill in claim and litigation.
- Basic working knowledge of various business line products.
- Strong negotiation and customer service skills.
- Skilled in coverage, liability, and damages analysis with a thorough understanding of the litigation process and expert litigation management skills.
- Extensive claim and/or legal experience and technical expertise to evaluate severe and complex claims.
- Able to make independent decisions on most assigned cases without supervisor involvement.
- Openness to the ideas and expertise of others; actively solicits input and shares ideas.
- Thorough understanding of commercial lines products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, and effective claims handling practices.
- Demonstrated coaching, influence, and persuasion skills.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills to interpret and convey complex data to varied audiences.
- Ability to adapt to and support cultural change.
- Strong technology aptitude for researching, tracking, and communicating information.
- Advanced skills in Analytical Thinking, Judgment/Decision Making, Communication, and Negotiation.
- Advanced knowledge in Insurance Contracts, Principles of Investigation, Value Determination, Settlement Techniques, and Legal Knowledge.
- Intermediate Medical Knowledge.

Pay
The annual base salary range for this position is $94,400.00 - $155,800.00. The actual salary will be determined by factors such as scope, complexity, location, skills, education, and experience. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.
