Senior Lifeguard - Part Time

About the role

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District invites applications for the position of Senior Lifeguard-PT. This part-time position is located at Cunningham and is open until filled. The salary range is $19.00 to $19.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Pool Manager in preparing the pool for public use as assigned, ensuring water meets Board of Health standards, inspecting filter equipment, maintaining water levels, inspecting locker rooms, changing areas, and public restrooms, and ensuring all equipment is in working order.
• Supervises the daily operation and maintenance of the public swimming pool.
• Supervises the staff during lessons and public swimming hours, ensuring the Senior Guard in charge does not leave the pool without notification.
• Responsible for the opening and closing of the pool as assigned, placing pool covers daily after closing.
• Inform the Aquatic Coordinator of any issues or progress regarding programs or facilities.
• Supervise the public during Recreation Swim hours and teach swim lessons as needed.
• Maintain pool records including time sheets, pool attendance sheets, daily financial sheets, Board of Health records, chlorine records, supply sheets, accident reports, incident reports, and any other records necessary for pool operation.
• Aid in weekly and bi-weekly trainings/meetings of all personnel to review life-guarding techniques, procedures, and discuss progress/problems.
• Dismiss patrons who are disobeying rules or jeopardizing safety and fill out appropriate forms when assigned by the Pool Manager, Aquatic Programs Specialist, or Aquatics Coordinator.
• Provide assistance in emergency situations.

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 18 years.
• Possession of current Lifeguard Training, CPR/PR, Lifeguard Training Instructor, or Water Safety Instructor certifications.
• Possession of CFAS Instructor certification is highly desirable.
• Pass practical skills test and written test.
• Valid California driver's license is desirable.
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups and respond to sensitive situations.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to perform physical duties required of a lifeguard, including swimming, treading water, and assisting with water rescues.
• Ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes without hands, and retrieve a 10-lb object from the bottom of the pool.
