Senior Legal Office Specialist – CASA
About the Role
The Eighth Judicial District Court is seeking qualified candidates for the Senior Legal Office Specialist position. The ideal candidate will assign, direct, and review the work of other legal office support staff, as well as provide various administrative tasks for the Program Administrator and other supervisory staff at the CASA program. The CASA program's mission is to recruit, screen, train, and retain CASA volunteers. This role involves reviewing court documents related to abused and neglected children and providing complex, technical, or confidential legal office support to various County legal or court offices.
This is a countywide recruitment opportunity open only to full-time permanent employees of Clark County and the Eighth Judicial District Court who have successfully completed their probationary period. The examination will establish a departmental eligibility list for current and/or future vacancies over the next three months or as extended by Human Resources.
Responsibilities
- Provides lead direction, training, and work review to a legal office support work unit; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned tasks.
- Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary, and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required.
- Performs difficult, complex, technical, and/or specialized confidential legal office support work, which may require independent judgment and technical skills.
- Researches and assembles information from various sources for completing forms or preparing reports; performs arithmetic and statistical calculations.
- Provides information to the public or County staff, requiring the use of judgment and application of policies, rules, or procedures.
- Organizes, maintains, and purges various departmental files.
- Types correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents from drafts, notes, dictated tapes, or brief instructions using a computer or typewriter.
- Proofreads and checks materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
- Enters and retrieves data, prepares reports, and reviews them for accuracy; may access statewide confidential computer data networks.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service by offering suggestions and participating as an active team member.
- Oversees and performs office administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, arranging equipment repairs, and keeping reference materials up to date; may arrange meetings, including notifying participants and reserving rooms.
- Acts as receptionist, screens visitors and telephone calls, and directs them to the appropriate person or handles them personally; operates standard office equipment.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Four (4) years of full-time experience providing office support involving legal terminology and processing legal documents.
- Professional-level experience and/or education may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
- Knowledge of basic supervisory principles and practices, legal office terminology, forms, documents, and procedures.
- Proficiency in specified computer applications, including word processing, data entry, and report generation.
- Familiarity with business arithmetic, office administrative practices, business letter writing, and record-keeping principles.
- Strong command of business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Techniques for dealing with the public, both in person and over the telephone, often in confrontational or strained situations.
Qualifications
- Legally authorized to work in the United States (Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers).
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation, which may be conducted periodically after hiring.
- Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
