Senior Legal Specialist
About the role
The Property Management Unit ensures the creation, maintenance and disposition of State leased and owned facilities for all State agencies in a cost-effective manner so that they can provide services to the residents of New Jersey. The incumbent will be required to communicate with real estate brokers, landlords, attorneys for the State as well as representatives of State agencies. The incumbent also needs to have experience reviewing and drafting legal documents relating to office leases including but not limited to: leases, amendments, estoppels, subordination, non-disturbance, attornment agreements, estoppels and clarification of lease terms.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with real estate brokers, landlords, attorneys for the State as well as representatives of State agencies.
- Review and draft legal documents relating to office leases including but not limited to: leases, amendments, estoppels, subordination, non-disturbance, attornment agreements, estoppels and clarification of lease terms.
- Provide guidance in regard to the compliance with statutes and regulations pertaining to the mission of the Property Management Unit.
- Review and prepare documents and materials for use in hearings and other executive determinations.
- Reviews and drafts proposed regulations, legislation and amendments related to the Unit's programs in accordance with the policy objectives of the Division and Department.
- Reviews and provides guidance and recommendations as to the nature and substance of various statutes and regulations and court decisions impacting the Division's programs.
- Analyze and perform legal research into State and/or federal legislation, requirements and court decisions pertaining to the Division's programs.
- Prepare reports regarding their impact.
- Handle and support the Division in matters before the Office of Administrative Law.
- Coordinate requests for legal advice from the Attorney General's Office.
Requirements
The incumbent must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.).
Qualifications
Experience reviewing and drafting legal documents relating to office leases including but not limited to: leases, amendments, estoppels, subordination, non-disturbance, attornment agreements, estoppels and clarification of lease terms.
Skills
Excellent communication skills, knowledge of state and federal laws, ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong organizational and analytical skills.

$80,000 - $100,000 annually
Schedule
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Lunch period (UNPAID): 12:00 noon -1:00 PM
