Senior Learning Experience Technologist
About the role
The Learning Experience Technologist III at Stanford Health Care serves as an experienced hybrid designer and developer who leads the creation, implementation, testing, and adaptation of innovative educational technologies in medical and health sciences education. This role combines user experience research, learning design, and full-stack development to design, build, and refine educational technologies that demonstrate what is possible in the evolution of learning.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop experimental prototypes that demonstrate future possibilities in educational technology, particularly in medical and health sciences education, in collaboration with faculty, learners, and Educational Technology team members.
- Lead rapid prototyping initiatives to test emerging technologies (AI, AR/VR, adaptive learning) in educational contexts, working both independently and in close partnership with internal and cross-team collaborators.
- Create proof-of-concept applications that push boundaries of traditional learning experiences and pitch them to Educational Technology leadership and subgroups (Learning Design and Evaluation, Production, Academic Support), incorporating stakeholder feedback into subsequent iterations.
- Research, evaluate, and communicate about new technologies for potential adoption in medical education environments, translating technical possibilities into clear recommendations for faculty and institutional partners.
- Contribute to institutional digital transformation initiatives through innovative technology solutions, modeling collaborative practices that enable other teams and departments to adopt and scale successful approaches.
- Execute full-cycle development from user research and ideation through implementation and deployment in collaboration with the Learning Innovation Futurist Team.
- Build custom learning components, interactive modules, and educational applications using modern web technologies in collaboration with the Educational Technology team.
- Use APIs and integrations to connect new applications to learning platforms as needed (Canvas, Coursera, LearnDash, Articulate Storyline) in alignment with needs from the Learning Design and Evaluation team.
- Implement AI-powered features including chatbots, intelligent tutoring systems, and personalized learning pathways in collaboration with the Educational Technology team.
- Create responsive, accessible educational interfaces following universal design principles.
- Maintain and evolve codebases for educational applications and learning tools.
- Collaborate with our evaluation team to support analytics needs related to learning outcomes, course performance, and user activity.
- Conduct user research with medical students, faculty, and healthcare professionals to identify learning needs as needed, both independently and in collaboration with the Learning Design and Evaluation group.
- Facilitate design thinking sessions with stakeholders and team members in workshops and collaborative ideation sessions.
- Synthesize research findings into actionable design requirements and technical specifications.
- Test and iterate solutions based on user feedback and learning analytics data both independently and collaboratively.
- Document and communicate research insights to inform team strategy and development priorities.
- Pitch innovative solutions and emerging technology insights to faculty, leadership, the Learning Design and Evaluation team, and the Production team.
- Contribute to publications, conference presentations, and grant proposals.
- Facilitate and enable the Educational Technology team to adopt or recommend new technologies through documentation, training, demonstration, and consensus building.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Educational Technology, Cognitive Science, Design, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience in technology.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in user experience design, software development, or educational technology.
- Portfolio showcasing innovative digital learning experiences and technical implementations.
- Experience with simulation, immersive learning technologies, or interactive educational content required.
- Evidence of continuous learning and adaptation to emerging technologies.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular).
- Experience with API development.
- Ability to responsibly use AI-assisted development tools.
- Version control systems and collaborative development workflows.
- Responsive design and mobile development approaches.
- Familiarity with learning design analytics.
- User-centered design methodologies and design thinking facilitation.
- Rapid prototyping and iterative design processes.

Pay
Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $59.21 - $78.43 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
