About the Role
The Senior Pastor strategically leads Victory Baptist Church in achieving its mission of working together to reach the next generation for Jesus Christ. He will serve, lead, and teach the body of believers, under the direction of God’s Holy Spirit, through the instruction of God’s Word. The Senior Pastor’s role is to develop, communicate, and equip the church to implement a vision for gospel growth within the fellowship and gospel outreach to the community and the world.
Responsibilities
Ministry Responsibilities
- Cast the mission, vision, and direction of the ministry of Victory Baptist Church.
- Function as the primary preaching pastor, overseeing all preaching to ensure it is sound, gospel-centered, and grounded in the Word of God.
- Train and disciple leaders, equipping and empowering the church to do the work of ministry (Eph 4).
- Collaborate with the Hispanic Pastor, Student Pastor, Minister of Music, Deacons, and other church leaders to strategize, lead, and implement church-wide initiatives.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Recommend hiring, supervise, and dismiss all employed church staff, including the principal of Chilton Christian Academy.
- Provide direct leadership to the pastoral and office staff, fostering a culture of purpose and unity.
- Assign duties to all staff and ensure their conduct aligns with job descriptions through annual evaluations and corrective action when needed.
- Provide each staff member with a job description and personnel manual outlining expectations, benefits, and grievance procedures.
- Serve as chief administrator of all church ministries, including Chilton Christian Academy, while delegating operational activity to the principal.
- Annually propose a General Ministry Budget to the Board of Trustees and present it to the congregation upon approval.
- Annually propose a Ministry Plan, including the General Ministry Budget, Staffing Plan, and Ministry Team Report to the Board of Trustees.
- Review and recommend salary and benefit adjustments for pastoral and non-pastoral staff for inclusion in the Proposed General Budget.
- Schedule and moderate quarterly ministry business meetings.
- Be accountable to the church body for the faithful discharge of duties as described in this position description.
Other Responsibilities
- Conduct weddings and funerals as needed.
- Serve the Lord’s Supper (Communion), which may be delegated to other pastors.
- Encourage and conduct baptisms as the Lord provides new converts or as growing believers desire to be baptized (may be delegated).
- Provide short-term counseling to couples or individuals within the church, maintaining moral integrity, biblical counsel, and confidentiality.
- Provide premarital counseling.
- Visit members, prospects, and the sick.
- Provide leadership to the worship leader regarding the form and content of music used in worship services.
- Promote faith-promise giving to support mission projects.
- Provide leadership to the Deacon Board, assisting with meeting dates and agendas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Character and Spiritual Life
- Defend the Bible as being without error.
- Demonstrate good spiritual disciplines, including private devotional time, regular worship, tithing, and giving.
- Possess a history of compassionate character, demonstrating the fruit of the Holy Spirit as listed in Galatians 5.
- Display a heart of humility, evidenced by a willingness to shepherd and serve sacrificially.
- Have a love for God’s word and a passion for making disciples.
- Ability to create and execute vision.
- Be in complete agreement with Victory Baptist Church’s mission statement and core beliefs.
Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week.
