About the role

The Electrical Infrastructure and Electric Vehicle segments within the Arclin business are focused on providing materials and solutions for electrical insulation in Renewables, Transportation, Utilities, Industry 4.0 spaces and improving the durability, efficiency, and performance of batteries and motors for EVs. These segments primarily involve the brand Nomex®, known for its high-performing solutions meeting various electrical insulation needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist research scientists and engineers in and independently contribute to various aspects of research and development for Electrical Infrastructure and Electric Vehicle segment projects.
  • Operate lab equipment, prepare test samples of various form factors, perform end-use performance evaluations, and maintain information/data management activities in support of new material, process or application development.
  • Conduct experiments independently and collect, summarize, and present experimental results as well as recognize and troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory.
  • Perform safety audit functions within the laboratory to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist and participate in the invention process with other professionals.
  • Conduct experiments, to completion, according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
  • Maintain, organize, and summarize results of experiments including notebook entries, regulatory documentation, data analysis, technical reports, etc.
  • Inspect, use, and maintain research equipment including performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Implement refinements in evolving technologies, equipment, and methodologies.
  • Write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and safety documentation.

Requirements

  • B.S. in physical science (chemistry, organic chemistry, physics), engineering or related field. 7+ years of proven experience in a research lab environment may suffice in lieu of B.S. degree.
  • Some domestic travel may be required to support varying internal and external (customer) interactions.
  • Preferred: Experience with high voltage equipment.
  • Preferred: Strong mechanical or electrical knowledge to assist in improving or modifying complex pieces of laboratory equipment to support specialized testing needs or customer-specific requests.
  • Preferred: Ability to mentor and provide guidance to laboratory technical personnel.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills using PC-based applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent personal interaction skills and ability to work as a team member with a diverse group of people.
  • Demonstrated competency in planning projects and handling multiple tasks.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
