We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java, SQL, and Linux who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and delivering reliable, high-performing software solutions.
About the role
In this hybrid role, you will lead application development efforts, optimize system performance, troubleshoot production issues, collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, and help modernize enterprise applications.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, coding, testing, debugging, and deployment of enterprise Java applications.
- Analyze technical and functional requirements to develop scalable software solutions.
- Develop flowcharts, technical documentation, user instructions, and system diagrams.
- Perform database design, SQL development, package deployment, and trigger creation.
- Analyze application logs, system performance, memory utilization, and connectivity issues to resolve production problems.
- Develop and implement enhancements to improve application performance and system efficiency.
- Create and maintain backup and recovery processes supporting business continuity.
- Coordinate technical work assignments and mentor development team members.
- Participate in software planning, analysis, estimation, and project coordination.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate new application requirements and system modifications.
- Develop programming standards, procedures, interfaces, and reporting solutions.
- Support production releases and participate in troubleshooting during off-hours as needed.
Requirements
- 15+ years of professional Java development experience.
- 10+ years of SQL database development and administration experience.
- 8+ years supporting and enhancing large-scale enterprise applications within a collaborative development team.
- 5+ years of Linux experience.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience troubleshooting complex production application issues.
- Ability to develop technical documentation and system specifications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Atlassian tools, particularly Jira.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Experience supporting State of Texas applications.
- Experience working within Texas Department of Public Safety environments.
- Experience modernizing legacy mainframe applications into Java/SQL platforms.
Pay
$58 - 63 per hour
