Senior Java Software Developer III (Enterprise Applications)
About the role
Join a high-impact development team supporting mission-critical enterprise applications in a senior-level Software Developer III role. We are seeking an experienced Java developer with deep expertise in enterprise application development, SQL databases, Linux, and large-scale software modernization. In this hybrid position, you will lead the design, development, enhancement, and performance optimization of complex applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

The location for this role is Austin, Texas, and it is a contract position with a salary of $77 - 87 per hour, working hours of 8am to 5pm, and requires a Bachelors degree.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, coding, testing, and debugging of enterprise Java applications.
- Oversee software development activities to ensure technical and functional requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, flowcharts, diagrams, and end-user instructions.
- Analyze application requirements and recommend technical solutions for new development and system enhancements.
- Evaluate database schemas and develop SQL code, stored procedures, packages, and triggers.
- Troubleshoot application issues through log analysis, system monitoring, memory utilization, and performance tuning.
- Develop and implement enhancements to improve application reliability, scalability, and overall system performance.
- Create and maintain backup and recovery processes to support business continuity.
- Coordinate programming activities across development teams and assign technical work as needed.
- Participate in project planning, software modernization initiatives, and application migrations.
- Establish development standards, best practices, and programming procedures.
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Support production deployments and provide ongoing maintenance for critical enterprise applications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications include 15+ years of professional Java development experience, 10+ years of SQL database development and administration experience, 8+ years supporting and enhancing large enterprise applications within a collaborative development environment, and 5+ years working in Linux environments.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strong experience designing, developing, testing, debugging, and deploying enterprise software solutions, experience with SQL programming, database schema analysis, and performance optimization, strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for complex application environments, ability to lead development efforts and coordinate technical work across project teams, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications include experience with the Atlassian tool suite, particularly Jira, experience working in Agile software development environments, experience supporting Texas State agency applications, experience supporting public sector technology environments, experience modernizing legacy mainframe applications into Java and SQL-based platforms, and experience participating in enterprise application migration initiatives.
