About the role

The Senior Java Developer will support both company and project team endeavors, participating in the full life cycle of agile or waterfall projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop user interfaces and applications
  • Conduct unit testing to ensure high quality, bug-free code
  • Decompose business and system architecture to support clean-interface multi-team development
  • Work in a diverse environment, multitasking multiple work streams
  • Mentor junior staff and take 100% ownership of tasks assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, with ten (10) years of relevant software development, sustainment, and operations experience supporting federal or enterprise applications
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder, eligible for USDA Public Trust/Tier 2 background investigation
  • Hands-on experience developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing Java-based enterprise applications using Spring Boot/Spring Framework, RESTful services, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern web application development practices
  • Four (4) years of experience with Angular/AngularJS or comparable front-end frameworks, including development of responsive, accessible, and user-friendly application interfaces
  • Experience supporting applications hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), including troubleshooting issues involving AWS S3, RDS, EFS, cloud-hosted repositories, application deployments, backups, and environment configuration across Development, UAT/Pre-Production, Production, and Disaster Recovery environments
  • Experience maintaining and enhancing content management or knowledge repository platforms; experience with MediaWiki customization, policy/content management workflows, or similar wiki-based platforms is strongly preferred
  • Experience using Jira/Jira Agile to manage user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint backlogs, defects, test cases, release artifacts, velocity metrics, burndown charts, and end-of-sprint reporting
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical design documentation, release notes, Version Description Documents, source code documentation, test plans, test scripts, test results, and deployment instructions in accordance with Agile SDLC and configuration management processes
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams, supporting sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews/demonstrations, retrospectives, quarterly release planning, and maintenance of an established sprint velocity
  • Experience performing unit, functional, system integration, regression, interoperability, security, browser compatibility, load/performance, and user acceptance testing; ability to document defects, analyze results, and remediate issues prior to release
  • Strong knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG Level A/AA accessibility requirements for web applications, electronic content, reports, documentation, and user support materials
  • Experience applying secure coding practices, static code analysis, automated unit/integration testing, vulnerability scanning, and remediation of Critical, High, Medium, and Low vulnerabilities in accordance with federal security requirements
  • Experience with source control, build, and deployment practices using Git-based repositories, AWS CodeCommit or equivalent enterprise repositories, Maven or comparable build tools, release branching/tagging, and delivery of fully commented source code and configuration artifacts
  • Experience supporting production operations, system monitoring, application availability, patch validation, operational readiness checks, disaster recovery exercises, and Tier 2 troubleshooting for mission-critical applications
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with project managers, business owners, product owners, help desk analysts, security teams, infrastructure teams, hosting providers, and Government stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support release readiness

  • Desired skills and qualifications include AWS Cloud certification, CISSP, or industry accepted cybersecurity application certification
