About the role
Nomura is a financial services group with an integrated global network connecting markets East & West to serve individuals, institutions, corporates and governments through its Wealth Management, Investment Management, Wholesale (Global Markets and Investment Banking) and Banking divisions. Driven by the insights of roughly 28,000 employees worldwide, Nomura places clients at the center of its operations, delivering unparalleled access to, from and within Asia. The Information Technology department at Nomura drives technology solutions that empower the business and enhance client experiences, leveraging cutting‑edge technologies to develop and maintain robust systems and infrastructure while ensuring security, reliability and efficiency. This Senior IT Project Manager — Market Risk & Credit Risk Delivery (Contract) position is based in NYC within the Technology department. The role focuses on end‑to‑end delivery of IT projects for market and credit risk, working closely with engineering and QA teams, translating regulatory requirements into delivery plans, managing budgets, resources and vendor statements of work, and driving adoption of AI tooling to automate SDLC tasks.
Responsibilities
- Own end‑to‑end delivery of 3–5 concurrent IT projects/workstreams — from requirements through build, test, deployment and BAU handoff.
- Drive sprint/release planning with engineering leads — backlog grooming, velocity tracking and blocker resolution.
- Maintain project plans, RAID logs and milestone trackers; anticipate and manage cross‑team dependencies.
- Partner with engineering/QA on SDLC rigor — enforce code‑review gates, test coverage standards and release management practices.
- Translate regulatory requirements (FRTB, BCBS 239, SA‑CCR or equivalents) into delivery plans and track execution.
- Manage project budget/run‑rate, resourcing and vendor SOW execution.
- Drive hands‑on adoption of AI tooling (Claude, Copilot, Jira automation) to automate SDLC tasks such as requirements authoring, test‑case generation, code‑review support, release notes, meeting minutes and status reporting; build reusable AI skills for the team.
- Serve as primary contact for business and Risk Management stakeholders — manage expectations, elicit requirements and validate scope changes.
- Own project status reporting, dashboards and steering‑committee packs.
- Manage change requests and impact assessments through to sign‑off.
- Coordinate UAT planning, business readiness and go‑live communications with the Change Organization.
- Feed status and risk information into programme‑level governance as directed (support role, not ownership).
Requirements
- 10–15 years of IT project delivery experience in financial services, with hands‑on Market Risk, Credit Risk or Trading Technology background.
- Proven track record delivering regulatory IT projects (FRTB, BCBS 239, SA‑CCR or equivalents) to production.
- Comfortable working directly with engineering and QA on SDLC mechanics.
- Advanced proficiency with Jira and Confluence (workflows, dashboards, reporting).
- Clear stakeholder communication — ability to produce status packs, escalate risks and frame options.
- Working quantitative fluency (VaR, CVA, P&L explain) and structured RAID/dependency management.
- Experience with budget tracking.
- AI proficiency: power user of AI tools; builds and shares reusable AI workflows for project artefacts (minutes, RAID logs, test cases, reporting).
- Awareness of data governance and regulatory constraints governing AI use in a regulated environment.
- Delivers outcomes, not just tracking; personally unblocks issues rather than merely escalating.
- SDLC‑fluent and credible with engineering/QA on test coverage and release readiness.
- AI‑native in daily use — applies AI to automate SDLC/reporting and shares patterns that others adopt.
- Exhibits Nomura Leadership Behaviours:
- Explore Insights & Vision – identify root causes and define clear vision/direction.
- Making Strategic Decisions – evaluate options and prioritize actions.
- Inspire Entrepreneurship in People – communicate ideas to motivate productivity enhancements.
- Elevate Organizational Capability – engage in professional development and promote knowledge sharing.
