Overview
Senior IT Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the research, configuration development, installation, support, and maintenance of computing resources that support daily operations and services provided by Southwest Power Pool. This includes researching, designing, and documenting systems and applications, and identification and implementation of automation opportunities within department/team processes.
Core Responsibilities
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge in specific IT technical areas, assigned applications and systems (Recognized as Subject Matter Expert)
- Monitor work queues for requests and reported issues. Resolve and close these requests in a timely manner
- Work an 24/7/365 on-call rotation
- Ensure SPP data centers, system racks, IT labs, and equipment storage areas remain clean/neatly organized at all times
- Install and remove hardware and cables into system racks as necessary
- Work with Facilities team as required for any datacenter power needs, rack installations and configurations
- Multitask, problem solve, and demonstrate the ability to grasp complex and highly integrated systems
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the business and technical requirements of assigned applications and systems and a competent understanding of other systems supported by the team
- Create, perform and/or manage assigned aspects of server installation: hardware and operating system software. ( i.e. requirements gathering, documentation, third-party software installation, and firmware installation/updates.)
- Research, install, maintain, and provide support for core business systems (i.e. email, domain services, Active Directory, DNS, certificates and Enterprise FTP.)
- Research, install, maintain, and provide support for clustered systems solutions
- Research, install, maintain, and provide support for virtualized infrastructure
- Research, install, maintain, and provide support for Kubernetes platforms
- Research, install, maintain, and provide support for Infrastructure-as-Code and other automation platforms
- Research, install, maintain, and provide support for on-prem, off-prem, and hybrid cloud platforms
- Research, install, maintain, and provide support for malware prevention and antivirus software for Windows and Linux servers
- Identify and resolve or mitigate vulnerabilities for team-owned systems and applications
- Create and maintain processes/procedures/guidelines as applicable.
- Maintain, update and reconcile hardware asset management information
- Maintain license inventory of owned and deployed software/hardware licenses
- Review new technology as assigned
- Participate in projects within the IT department
- Manage workload within Jira
- Perform tasks or special projects as assigned by the management team or by senior team members.
- Provide input to IT planning process in regards to computing resources and applications
- Monitor processes and operations on an ongoing basis with the intent of continuous improvement and/or automation
- Mentor level I/II and new team members. Provide mentoring to other team members and teams based on experience
- Adhere to all compliance (CIP/SOC1) guidelines and SPP policies and procedures
- Participate in gathering information/evidence as applicable/required for compliance purposes
- Purchase or acquire computing resources and software required for departmental needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or certification in an Information Technology related field, or combined equivalent experience
- Required6 years infrastructure support experience or 5 years of experience and, at minimum, two active industry-recognized technical certifications applicable to job role and/or team functions is required
- RequiredThis position requires minimal travel (approximately 10%)
- Preferred Qualifications Scripting skills are preferred
Other Requirements
- The incumbent’s experience must demonstrate effective computing and problem solving skills
- An effective knowledge of enterprise server operating systems, applications, hardware configurations, hardware upgrade or repair, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Good customer service and organization skills
- Technical certification pursuant to the Infrastructure Admin Technology Training Certification Program. The following list of technical certifications are examples for this role and are not to be considered a complete list: Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Red Hat Certified System Engineer, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Automation with Ansible, VMWare Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization, CyberArk Level Two: Defender or Level Three: Sentry.
