About the role

The Senior Analyst is a hands-on investing role engaged throughout due diligence, execution, portfolio monitoring, and ongoing analytics across a dynamic portfolio of fund commitments, direct investments, and project development opportunities. This position works closely with and reports to the Investment Principal. The role requires a blend of traditional financial expertise, strong financial analytical capability, systematic approach to due diligence and portfolio monitoring, genuine curiosity regarding the sectors, contexts, and business models in which the fund is prioritizing, and a deep commitment to impact outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Development and Support
    • Assess early-stage opportunities for business model quality and risk considerations
    • Maintain relationships with intermediaries (including fund managers) and co-investors to strengthen deal flow
    • Track pipeline activity and surface insights on deal flow quality, pacing, and emerging themes
  • Research and Due Diligence
    • Undertake financial, market, and impact due diligence for assigned investments, coordinating inputs from internal partners and third-party advisors
    • Refresh landscape analyses to understand current contexts in which investments are being considered
    • Evaluate business models, competitive dynamics, management teams, and key risks, forming and documenting investment viewpoints
    • Synthesize and present diligence findings to support clear investment recommendations
  • Financial Analysis and Modeling
    • Build, maintain, and refine financial models to evaluate prospective investments, including downside scenarios, capital needs, and return profiles
    • Analyze unit economics, cash flow dynamics, valuation, and deal structures across private asset classes
    • Apply financial analysis to ongoing monitoring of individual investments and the portfolio
  • Transaction Execution, Structuring, and Committee Review
    • Prepare and present materials for decision-making review, manage post-decision diligence, and track closing conditions
    • Review and assess legal and economic terms to ensure alignment with investment intent and risk assessment
    • Support transaction execution, including term sheet development, deal structuring, and coordination with legal counsel and external advisors
  • Portfolio Monitoring, Reporting, and Relationship Management
    • Work with Investment Principal to maintain ongoing engagement with investees and fund managers
    • Monitor and assess financial and impact performance, identifying risks, opportunities, and recommended actions
    • Prepare portfolio-level analyses and reporting for internal stakeholders, including materials for committee review
  • Knowledge Management
    • Refine and improve investment processes, diligence frameworks, and portfolio monitoring practices
    • Capture and synthesize learnings from diligence and portfolio performance to inform ongoing improvements to investment practices
    • Contribute to the development and improvement of impact measurement and reporting approaches
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Strategic Project Management
    • Partner with the Learning and Evaluation team on impact due diligence, KPI development, and ongoing impact tracking and reporting
    • Collaborate with internal partners across philanthropic, advocacy, and operational teams on cross-cutting initiatives
    • Cook up and coordinate effectively with shared services and third-party advisors while retaining accountability for analysis quality and outcomes

    Qualifications and Skills

    • 3-5 years of directly relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, asset management, family office, or a comparable investment environment
    • Demonstrated proficiency in financial modeling, valuation, and deal structuring, with experience evaluating investments across private asset classes including private equity, venture capital, and private debt
    • Experience applying investment judgment and forming recommendations
    • Experience integrating impact criteria into investment analysis and decision-making would be a plus
    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related quantitative discipline; CFA, CAIA, or progress toward either is a plus
    • Preferred: Direct experience integrating impact considerations into investment analysis and decision-making
    • Familiarity with portfolio management, CRM, or research systems (e.g., Addepar, Fluxx)
    • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical judgment with attention to detail
    • Ability to independently build, audit, and stress-test financial models including DCF, fund cash flow forecasting, and credit underwriting models
    • Comfort working across complex capital structures, blended finance instruments, and multi-tranche funding arrangements
    • Proficiency with Excel at an advanced level; familiarity with data visualization or portfolio analytics tools is a plus
    • Ability to produce clear, concise memos, briefs, and presentations
