About the Department

The Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University is one of the largest business schools in Virginia, with AACSB-accredited business and accounting programs at campuses in Arlington, Fairfax, and Incheon, South Korea. The college prepares undergraduate and graduate students for careers in business and government through multi-disciplinary academic programs, inclusive entrepreneurship, experiential learning, and corporate partnerships. The Accounting Area comprises 22 full-time faculty members with diverse research and teaching interests, publishing in premier journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, and Journal of Accounting and Economics.

About the Role

The Senior Instructor or Assistant Professor teaches undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, contributes to the academic environment, and provides service to the Accounting Area, Costello College of Business, the university, and the profession. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Responsibilities

• Teaches accounting courses in undergraduate and/or graduate programs (teaching load determined by the College’s workload policy);
• Provides service to the Accounting Area, Costello College of Business, the university, and the profession, including academic community engagement, student mentoring, committee membership, and interfacing with the business community;
• Collaborates with colleagues to advance the collective goals of the department and college.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in accounting or a related field;
• Significant teaching experience in both face-to-face and online environments, including course design and material development;
• Extensive professional experience in accounting or related roles;
• Ability to teach Intermediate Accounting and other accounting courses at undergraduate and graduate levels;
• Collegiality and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
• CPA certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution;
• Professional certification in accounting beyond CPA (e.g., CMA, CIA, CISA).
