Senior Instructional Designer
Enterprise Health and Safety (EH&S) consists of PG&E’s Regional Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Transportation and Contractor Safety, PG&E’s Safety Excellence Management System (PSEMS), Enterprise Corrective Action Program (eCAP), and PG&E Academy. The team collaborates with enterprise partners to implement safety programs supporting the regional safety model, workforce safety (including contractor safety), public safety, and transportation safety. The team develops and maintains safety standards, assesses enterprise safety culture, and oversees PSEMS. Additionally, the EH&S team facilitates the enterprise corrective action program and ensures coworkers have the knowledge and skills to safely and compliantly perform their work through strategically developed and delivered training programs.
About the role
PG&E Academy is looking for a Senior Instructional Designer to join the Curriculum Development Team. This role works closely with the development team and clients to develop and maintain learning content, tools, systems, and programs that support employees' ability to safely and efficiently perform their work. The role uses a wide range of methodologies, delivery mechanisms, and formats to meet specific business needs. The Instructional Designer will collaborate with subject matter experts and internal and external stakeholders to translate business and performance objectives into learning and performance support solutions, ensuring employees are trained to competence. This position is hybrid, working from a remote office and an assigned work location based on business need.
Responsibilities
- Conduct needs analysis, review existing learning options, and facilitate discussions to recommend cost-effective learning and performance support solutions that meet business requirements, support change objectives, and align with industry best practices.
- Work across lines of business to complete cross-functional, complex, high-priority learning solutions, including developing recommendations and presenting to functional leadership.
- Lead and oversee the design and production of learning solutions and deliverables, working with subject matter experts and other Academy team members.
- Manage the assignment and quality of design work to ensure the learning solution is on time, on target, and on budget. Establish and hold others accountable to quality standards.
- Monitor and report on learning effectiveness and implement changes as needed.
- Provide coaching and support to other designers.
- Provide project management, including defining the project, creating the project plan, managing timeline, budget, and resources, and providing project updates. Ensure accurate reporting of status and forecasts of managed projects.
- Partner with delivery teams to ensure successful transition of curriculum from development to the classroom.
Qualifications
- Minimum: A Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Liberal Arts, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5 or more years of experience in Instructional Design, Communications, Teaching, Training, Change Management, or Graphic Design.
- Experience designing and developing curriculum for cross-functional projects.
- Experience working on small to mid-size projects and/or training programs.
Skills
- eLearning, mLearning, and Virtual Learning design and development experience (desired).
- A strong working knowledge of instructional design for classroom, virtual, and eLearning environments.
- Expert knowledge of the following applications/systems is preferred: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate Suite, Questionmark, AuthorIt, video production, UPK, and web design tools.
- Ability to effectively coach and mentor others.
- Ability to present learning solutions and recommendations to clients and team members and negotiate for win-win solutions.
- Proven ability to mentor and coach Instructional Designers, perform QA reviews, and uphold Academy standards.
- Ability to review work, provide constructive feedback, and ensure learning integrity and quality.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with SMEs, clients, instructors, and leadership.
- Experience presenting recommendations and influencing decisions with business partners.
Pay
PG&E is providing the salary range the company believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. The actual salary will be based on factors such as skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. The salary range for this role in the Bay Area is:
- Minimum: $98,000
- Maximum: $146,000
