About the Role

Terracon is seeking a Senior Industrial Hygienist to expand our Building Environmental Sciences (BES) and Industrial Hygiene business in the Jacksonville Metro Area and across Northeast Florida. In this role, you will work closely with the Environmental Department Manager to supervise staff and projects, ensuring work is performed on time, on budget, and meets client requirements and company policies. You will prepare winning proposals for industrial hygiene assessments, hazardous materials surveys, bid specifications, and abatement oversight, while also leading daily operations, including safety, staff training, and quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety efforts and ensure the team follows safety rules and guidelines, promoting a safe work environment and pre-task planning.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates for industrial hygiene assessments, asbestos, lead-based paint, and other hazardous materials surveys.
  • Plan and lead field surveys for mold, indoor air quality, asbestos, lead-based paint, and other hazardous building materials; manage and mentor junior staff.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene sampling, exposure assessments, and document site activities, results, and recommendations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports to ensure accuracy and quality of findings and recommendations.
  • Develop an understanding of project-related risks and company risk policies.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects.
  • Perform business and client development activities, including presentations, conferences, and cross-selling with senior practitioners.
  • Develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection, and on-boarding.
  • Prepare and execute an annual business plan for the practice, overseeing key metrics such as revenue growth, staff chargeability, and project profitability.
  • Provide technical direction and training to less experienced staff.
  • Assist in establishing and updating policies and procedures for technical projects.
  • Serve as a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 9+ years of asbestos/industrial hygiene practice experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients and team members.
  • Proven track record of business and market growth within the discipline.
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
  • AHERA-Certified Asbestos Building Inspector.
  • Solid understanding of EPA, OSHA, and Florida Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint, Mold, and Radon Regulations.
  • Solid background in conducting mold and indoor air quality assessments.
  • Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer status required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification.
  • Florida Licensed Asbestos Consultant (LAC).
  • EPA Certified Lead-Based Paint Inspector and Risk Assessor.
  • AHERA-Certified Asbestos Building Management Planner and Project Designer.
  • Florida Licensed Mold Assessor.
  • Florida Certified Radon Measurement Technician or Specialist.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field.
