Senior Industrial Designer, Devices & Services Experience Design (DxD) team, Hardware Industrial Design

About the role

The Hardware Industrial Design team at Amazon is seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to join the DxD team. This team is dedicated to developing innovative products for consumers, working closely with engineers and scientists to bring new products to market. The role involves leading the design process from concept to production, ensuring that all aspects of the physical experience meet high standards.

Responsibilities

• Deliver all aspects of the physical experience, from concepts and prototypes to production
• Lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of designers, researchers, engineers, and program managers
• Create a holistic product experience that is simple, intuitive, and visually refined
• Translate a customer-centric design vision into concepts despite underlying complexity or constraints
• Possess an exceptional eye for detail, form, and proportion, and embrace a highly iterative design process
• Contribute to innovative solutions and demonstrate leadership, technical competence, and meticulousness
• Lead demanding projects and push the limits of industrial design
• Advance industrial design practices through deep understanding of the specific design field and related technologies
• Identify and master best-in-class methods and processes for achieving creative excellence in current and future Amazon products
• Demonstrate thought leadership and influence both within the organization and beyond

Qualifications

• 7+ years of equivalent experience
• Available online portfolio
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field
• Experience owning and leading design projects, either independently or leading a team
• Experience with 3D modeling packages (Rhino/SolidWorks), 2D packages (Photoshop and Illustrator), and 3D rendering (Keyshot)

Preferred Qualifications

• Mastery of fundamental design disciplines and a passionate user-centered design advocate
• Excellent sketching and 3D craftsmanship
• Ability to lead and mentor design teams and more junior team members
• Proven ability to present a comprehensive design point of view through multiple channels
• Proven ability to prepare production-ready data and documentation
• The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment
• Excellent communication skills: visual, verbal, and written
