About the role
The Amazon's Hardware Industrial Design team is seeking a talented and passionate Senior Industrial Designer to work on their next-generation of devices and accessories. You will be working with a unique and gifted team developing exciting products for consumers. The team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers and scientists engaged in a fast-paced mission to deliver the new products. The team faces a challenging task of balancing cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Deliver all aspects of the physical experience, from concepts and prototypes all the way to production.
- Lead and work collaboratively within a team of other designers, researchers, engineers and program managers, creating a holistic product experience at the highest standards for our customers.
- Translate a customer-centric design vision into concepts that are simple, intuitive and visually refined despite underlying complexity or constraints.
- Possess an exceptional eye for detail, form and proportion and embrace a highly iterative approach to design informed by the latest technologies and industry trends.
- Communicate proposals and specifications to other teams and disciplines within the organization at all levels.
- Push the limits of the Industrial design while collaborating with other discipline and departmental leaders.
- Advance Industrial Design practices through deep understanding of the specific design field and related technologies, identifying and mastering best-in-class methods and processes for achieving creative excellence in current and future Amazon products.
- Become a thought leader and influencer both within their org and outside it.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of equivalent experience
- Available online portfolio
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field of study
- Experience owning and leading design projects, either independently or leading a team
- Experience with 3D modeling packages (Rhino/SolidWorks), 2D packages (Photoshop and Illustrator), and 3D Rendering (Keyshot)
Preferred Qualifications
- Mastery of fundamental design disciplines and a passionate user-centered design advocate
- Excellent sketching and 3D craftsmanship
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor design team and more junior design team members
- Proven ability to prepare production ready data and documentation
- Ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously and multi-task in an agile environment
- Excellent communication skills: visual, verbal and written
