Senior Improvement Advisor

£65,125 - £70,303 (Band 8A), full time (36 hours per week), permanent. Hybrid working in Edinburgh or Glasgow with routine travel for in-person meetings, site visits, workshops, and events.

About the role

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is the national improvement agency for health and social care in Scotland. We are seeking a Senior Improvement Advisor to lead the scoping, design, and delivery of national improvement and implementation programmes within the Medical and Safety Directorate’s Perinatal, Paediatric, and Acute Adult Care portfolio. This portfolio is part of the Scottish Patient Safety Programme (SPSP) and includes:

• SPSP Adults in Hospital: improving outcomes and experience for adults in hospital.
• SPSP Paediatric: engaging teams delivering paediatric inpatient care to improve outcomes for children, young people, and families.
• SPSP Perinatal and the developing Acute Perinatal Improvement Programme: improving outcomes and experiences for women, birthing people, babies, and families.
• Focus on Frailty: improving access to person-centred, coordinated health and social care services for people living with, or at risk of, frailty.

The role involves delivering innovative and complex work programmes, requiring expertise in leadership, improvement, and programme management. The postholder must demonstrate pace, adaptability, and the ability to navigate complexity while working collaboratively and proactively solving problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the scoping, design, and delivery of national improvement and implementation programmes.
• Use expertise in data and measurement for improvement to drive programme success.
• Engage people with lived and living experience in improvement initiatives.
• Bring together diverse groups to progress improvement in priority areas of health and social care.

Requirements

• Experience leading national improvement programmes.
• An improvement-related qualification.
• Master’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent knowledge and experience in improving health and social care services.
• Knowledge or experience of health and social care within an acute hospital setting is desirable.
