About the role
X-energy LLC is seeking a Senior Heat Exchanger Specialist to join its team. This role is responsible for guiding specification, selection, and design of heat exchangers for various mechanical process and power generation system applications.
Responsibilities
- Direct the planning for analyses to assess heat exchangers' functions and ensure they meet technical specifications and requirements.
- Supervise computations using hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other calculations.
- Develop and manage engineering changes according to approved procedures.
- Provide guidance and assistance in designing and developing mechanical systems and components within expertise.
- Understand nuclear safety implications and coordinate with key stakeholders/systems engineers.
- Select components based on requirements, interfaces, design bases, and industry codes and standards.
- Author and maintain X-energy design standards and guides related to heat exchangers.
- Lead external engineering partners in executing core tasks and responsibilities.
- Support procurement of material, equipment, and services, and oversee procured items and associated documentation.
- Review engineering documentation for technical correctness and compliance with X-energy processes and procedures.
- Manage system and project risks related to engineering and design scope.
- Teach and mentor more junior team members.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
- Set technical direction at the enterprise level through technology or discipline-specific roadmaps, best practices, and design criteria.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university.
- Up to 15+ years of relevant experience (Level V).
- Up to 20+ years of relevant experience (Level VI).
- Master's degree in engineering or related field (may include academic experience).
- Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include academic experience).
- Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards.
- Experience with mechanical process equipment design, procurement, installation, and operation, including heat exchangers.
- Experience with industry codes and standards such as TEMA, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, API, and HEI.
- Knowledge of system requirements management, verification, and Systems Engineering processes.
- Experience with heat transfer principles, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat exchanger types.
- Ability to prepare and review technical specifications, thermal design calculations, datasheets, and procurement documents.
- Understanding of fouling mechanisms, cleaning methods, and maintenance strategies.
- Experience with vendor management and evaluating supplier proposals.
Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of industry codes and standards.
- In-depth knowledge of heat exchanger types and design.
- Expertise in thermal analysis and performance prediction.
- Strong grasp of heat transfer mechanisms and calculations.
- Experience with mechanical design and materials.
- Ability to calculate and evaluate heat transfer coefficients, surface areas, thermal effectiveness, and overall equipment efficiency.
- Knowledge of system requirements management and verification.
- Experience with design and operation of mechanical systems.
- Experience with nuclear systems and licensing, regulatory, quality, and safety requirements.
- Ability to lead and mentor more junior team members.
- Knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
- Experience setting technical direction at the enterprise level.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and may vary based on the specific office location and region.
Schedule
Full-time - Exempt.
