Senior Hardware Development Engineer, NPD Hardware
About the role
AWS’ Network Products Development team seeks experienced hardware engineers to design and develop our next generation Ethernet switching platforms for world-class datacenters. Ideal candidates have strong experience in modular chassis-based enterprise and carrier products.
Responsibilities
- Develop functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
- Design and develop Ethernet switching fabrics, Ethernet PHY and SerDes interfaces, embedded CPU subsystems, DDR2/DDR3/DDR4 memory design, network processors, I2C, USB
- Design high-speed PCBs and CPLDs/FPGAs using VHDL or Verilog
- Interfacing with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, HW engineers, SI engineers, diagnostic engineers, and manufacturing engineers, as well as with outside vendors and developers
- Define and implement modular chassis functions such as system redundancy, hot-swap, power distribution, environmental control, and system management
- Interface with mechanical engineers to specify mechanical enclosures
Requirements
- BSEE with 10+ years experience in hardware board and systems development (must have taken products from concept to mass production)
- Recent 5+ years experience with Ethernet switching fabrics, Ethernet PHY and SerDes interfaces, embedded CPU subsystems, DDR2/DDR3/DDR4 memory design, network processors, I2C, USB
- Experience with high-speed PCB design and AC/DC PI and 5+ years of experience in CPLD/FPGA design using VHDL or Verilog
- Experience troubleshooting with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and specialized test equipment such as PCI analyzers and in-circuit-emulators
- Experience interfacing with cross-functional teams such as mechanical engineers, HW engineers, SI engineers, diagnostic engineers, and manufacturing engineers as well as with outside vendors and developers
Qualifications
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Experience defining and implementing modular chassis functions such as system redundancy, hot-swap, power distribution, environmental control, and system management
- CPLD/FPGA experience in the areas of advanced HW control/monitoring/logging
- Experience in specifying mechanical enclosures
- Experience in analog design, signal integrity analysis, DC-DC switcher design, EDVT, and MDVT is an asset
Skills
Strong experience in modular chassis based enterprise/carrier products is a must. Must have previous experience working with Asian ODM and JDM partners, both in development and in manufacturing.

Pay
Base salary range: $159,200.00 - $215,300.00 USD annually
