Senior Groundwater Modeler

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Groundwater Modeler to join our Environment, Remediation, and Water Team. This role is based in one of our offices in Redmond, WA, Denver, CO, Meridian, ID, Minneapolis, MN, Bend, OR, or Portland, OR. You will contribute to projects that meet client objectives and solve complex challenges while collaborating with a growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply analytical and numerical groundwater models to support contaminated site investigations and water resource projects.
• Analyze and interpret model results and hydrogeological data and prepare reports.
• Provide technical support for geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, hydrogeologic testing, geologic and hydrogeologic visualization, analytical and numerical groundwater flow modeling, contaminated sites investigations, and development of conceptual site models.
• Plan and manage projects and participate in client meetings.
• Perform business development activities, including client contact/presentations, proposal writing, and professional society participation (either in a lead or supporting role).
• Serve as an internal technical resource to provide guidance/review and ensure technical quality within WSP, as well as mentor junior-level staff.
• Work closely with other members of the WSP modeling team and the wider WSP groundwater technical community globally in a collaborative environment.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrology, or Engineering with a specialization in groundwater modeling through coursework or undergraduate projects/thesis.
• Minimum of five years of experience with industry-standard numerical modeling packages (e.g., MODFLOW, Groundwater Vistas, FEFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, MIKE SHE).
• Minimum of seven years of experience, preferably in a consulting practice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including making presentations, leading discussions, technical documentation, proposal/report writing, and English fluency.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Excellent work ethic with strong organization and time management skills.
• Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-graduate degree (M.Sc., Ph.D.) in Geology, Hydrology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong academic knowledge of physical hydrogeology and geology.
• Practical experience with physical hydrogeology, including borehole logging, monitoring well installation, and hydraulic conductivity testing.
• Experience with PEST and Null Space Monte Carlo analyses.
• Exposure to machine learning.
• Strong computer skills, including GIS-type software, digital databases, and visualization software (e.g., Leapfrog).
• Programming experience, including Python, R, and VBA.

Pay

Expected salary range: $90,700 – $118,500 (based on education, experience, skills, and location). WSP reserves the right to adjust compensation based on internal equity and specific geographic factors.
