Senior Groundwater Modeler / Hydrogeologist

About the role

In this position, you will contribute to hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and water quality modeling projects. Each role at HDR helps make a positive impact on communities and the world.

Responsibilities

• Work under senior modelers, applying prescribed methods in data analysis and modeling assignments
• Evaluate thermal impacts, pathogens, biochemical (BOD) dissolved oxygen, nutrients, algae, or organic/metal contamination in lakes, streams, rivers, estuaries, or coastal waters
• Acquire, organize, and analyze environmental data
• Set up and execute mathematical models
• Perform quality-control checks on model input and results
• Participate in project meetings, proposal preparation, report writing, and presentations
• Develop statistical and graphical comparisons of model results and data
• Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering/science, oceanography, or a closely related field
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in hydrodynamic or water quality modeling projects
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively within a project team

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience as a hydrogeologist or closely aligned profession (advanced degrees may substitute for experience)
• Experience conducting contaminated site investigations, including sample collection and analysis of soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment
• Experience preparing groundwater monitoring reports and evaluating laboratory analytical data
• Knowledge of conceptual site models and ability to analyze them for data gaps
• Experience performing drilling, well installation, slug tests, and pump tests in consolidated and unconsolidated formations
• Professional Geologist (PG) or Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) certification
• Experience with Federal environmental regulations (CCR, CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, etc.)
• Experience on Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) projects involving groundwater monitoring, statistical analysis, site characterization, and corrective measures
• Familiarity with boring log digitization software (e.g., gINT, OpenGround) and hydrogeological software (e.g., Surfer, Aqtesolv)
• Willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, extreme temperatures)
• OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification and MSHA training (a plus)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Local candidates in the Greater Philadelphia area preferred
