Description of responsibilities
- Aids the Vice President of Finance, General Accounting in daily financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and P-Card activity.
- Performs financial analysis, reporting, audit preparation, and budgeting process.
- Oversees and reviews all aspects of bi-weekly payroll processing, including time entry approvals, leave tracking (PTO, sick, FMLA), and payroll funding.
- Reviews and approves payroll reports, payouts, and staff work products to ensure accuracy.
- Manages and reviews accounts payable processes, including invoice approvals, P-Card transaction verification, and general ledger coding.
- Ensures proper cost allocation and budget alignment for expenditures.
- Reviews and approves journal entries, including payroll, cash transfers, inventory, and other general accounting transactions.
- Performs monthly balance sheet reconciliations and supports ad hoc journal entries.
- Maintains oversight of month-end close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Conducts income statement variance analysis and ensures accurate monthly financial reporting.
- Analyzes operational expenses and performs budget analytics.
- Prepares and compiles audit workpapers and assists with annual audit processes.
Required experience
- Seven (7) years of progressive experience in accounting and payroll management, preferably in a government setting.
- Experience with payroll processing, accounts payable, and general accounting functions.
- Experience in financial reporting, budget analysis, and audit preparation.
- Experience working with ERP systems and payroll software.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong understanding of auditing principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to analyze unexpected results when working on financial reports.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Basic education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
