About the role

The Senior Finance Analyst position is essential for monitoring the financial activities of the Timpanogos School District to ensure compliance with fiscal policies, practices, regulations, and other compliance requirements. This role involves maintaining the general ledger, implementing budget functions, and providing guidance and recommendations to school site personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison between school secretaries and banking institutions to resolve software support platform and banking payment gateway issues.
  • Analyze school financial reports and related information to identify potential budget variances, develop internal controls, and identify training needs.
  • Absorb responsibility for various accounting projects such as reconciling investment accounts, developing district internal controls, reviewing expenditures of specific programs, etc.
  • Audit district and school accounting procedures to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and school accounting requirements.
  • Create and maintain general ledger accounts, electronic approval chains, account security, and user accounts to monitor and maintain appropriate use and security of accounts and systems.
  • Develop reporting processes, procedures, and internal controls for student fund accounting to ensure financial processes are conducted in accordance with established standards and provide accurate information.
  • Maintain accounting and internal control policies and procedures to ensure staff comply with established procedures and maintain accurate accounting records; and/or identify corrective actions to reinforce proper procedures to minimize negative audit findings.
  • Monitor accounting software applications systems for proper functionality, including identifying software issues for collaboration with technology staff, installation of software, and updates.
  • Participate in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc., to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Prepare reports and related documents, such as audit reports, year-end state reports, annual comprehensive financial report, secondary schools quarterly sales tax return, etc., to document audit activities and findings.
  • Provide technical expertise, training, and direction to school site staff and administration regarding accounting issues and related financial activities.
  • Research a wide variety of accounting policies, such as state financial reporting requirements, grant requirements, etc., to provide information and/or recommendations that impact the District's accounting practices.
  • Respond to inquiries from a wide variety of internal and external sources to provide information, direction, and/or appropriate referrals.
  • Supervise department Financial Analysts in their respective responsibilities.
  • Train department and school financial secretaries and principals on the use of accounting software and school accounting procedures.
  • Assist in preparation of Federal, State, and local financial reports to ensure compliance with legal, financial, and district requirements.
  • Assist in verifying teacher assignments and coding of expenses to ensure allocations are accurate and fiscal practices are followed.
  • Assist in tracking categorical program funds to ensure program operations are within budget and in accordance with fiscal practices.
  • Assist in year-end closing, retirement, and Social Security programs to ensure compliance with legal, financial, and District requirements.
  • Maintain account number approval and assignment on requisitions and purchase orders to ensure compliance with organizational policy and procedures.
  • Oversee budget information and reports to assist decision makers and track expenditures and revenues versus budget to ensure program operations are within budget and in accordance with fiscal practices.
  • Provide financial accounting assistance for various programs to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Responsible for property taxation, analysis, and recommendations to ensure program operations are within budget and in accordance with fiscal practices.

Qualifications

  • Job-related experience within a specialized field is required.
  • Targeted, job-related education in a job-related area is required.
