Key Accountabilities
- Work with the Sr. Manager for Facilities and Maintenance to deliver the department objectives.
- Plan, coordinate, deliver and oversee the installation and maintenance of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, HVAC controls, fire alarm systems, and backup power systems.
- Plan, coordinate, deliver and oversee planned preventive maintenance (PPM), Fixed Electrical Testing (FET), Infrared Testing (IR) and reactive maintenance on HV and LV electrical systems.
- Manage capital projects related to facility electrical upgrades, expansions, and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues to minimize downtime and ensure plant reliability.
- Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc flash assessments, and system capacity planning.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, OSHA).
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance plans for electrical systems and equipment.
- Lead and support energy management and sustainability programs.
- Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and utility companies as needed.
- Develop framework contracts and Service Level Agreements for external Service Providers.
- Oversee and assess work performance of external service providers.
- Maintain accurate documentation of electrical systems and facility drawings, including one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and maintenance records.
- Provide technical support to maintenance and operations teams during equipment installation, upgrades, or modifications.
- Participate in safety programs, risk assessments, and facility audits.
- Support implementation and delivery of the company Health & Safety Standards which will include taking the role of Responsible Person (RP) or Assistant RP for specified activities.
- Be the campus Subject matter expert in all electrical topics, manage and sign off electrical training requirements for the maintenance team and ensure policy changes are communicated effectively to relevant employees.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
- Provide input into the continuous improvement of maintenance systems and processes.
- Own and manage the Campus PV systems, EV systems and operate/maintain the onsite Microgrid.
- Own and assist with reporting activities for both internal and external management and stakeholders.
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain critical a spares inventory, ensuring relevant spares are available for critical assets.
- Function as a liaison when collaborating with other professionals including structural engineers, builders, architects, surveyors, and in-house project teams.
- Attend project group and technical meetings.
- Assist with ensuring the security of employees, and capital assets, within the organization by providing strategic direction, tactical management, emergency planning, and disaster recovery strategies for electrical systems.
- Promote a compliance culture in area of responsibility, and live the letter and the spirit of the MTU Integrity Code
- Perform special projects as required.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with minimum 3 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing facilities, with a strong focus on electrical systems.
Preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification
- Excellent understanding of electrical power systems, including 12,470V, 480V and low-voltage controls.
- Familiarity with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM Power Tools).
- Knowledge of PLCs, motor controls, and industrial automation systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Good people skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Good oral, written and presentation communication skills.
- Proficient with a PC, CAD software and MS Office Suite
Work Conditions
- Daily work is performed in an office and general manufacturing environments.
- This position has a traditional work schedule that requires five (5) eight (8) hour days during a Monday through Friday work schedule, may require occasional overtime, weekend work, or on-call support.
