About the Role
Join our Building Enclosure consulting practice in the East Bay office. You will collaborate with local leaders and Facilities Service Line professionals nationwide to deliver architectural and consulting services across a variety of sectors, including commercial, retail, multi-family, hotel, senior living, industrial, government, healthcare, education, and institutional projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide architectural and consulting services, including field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, recommendations, design and development of plans/specifications, observation, inspection, and report preparation.
- Review drawings and construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
- Prepare proposals, track project progress, manage budgets, and recommend changes.
- Research and resolve design and construction problems; assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for reports.
- Apply sound architectural/engineering principles and communicate complex issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Lead safety efforts, promote pre-task planning, and model a safe work environment.
- Monitor and improve quality standards for projects and proposals.
- Identify and mitigate project-related risks.
- Engage with office leaders and represent the Facilities service line.
- Develop new and existing client relationships to expand service opportunities.
- Manage or consult on facility projects, providing leadership and expertise.
- Lead building diagnostics projects (e.g., roofing, façade, waterproofing, foundations, MEP/HVAC, litigation support, field testing, distress studies).
- Develop or review construction documents for rehabilitation or remedial projects.
- Analyze technical aspects, define scopes, and recommend design changes.
- Peer review construction documents, protocols, and scopes of work.
- Direct field testing and investigations for building system diagnostics.
- Prepare professional reports with logical technical recommendations.
- Drive business development and implement marketing strategies.
- Prepare proposals, define scopes, establish fees, and manage project personnel, finances, and schedules.
- Supervise and mentor less experienced professionals in building enclosure services.
- Participate in technical/professional associations and assume leadership roles.
- Lead Terracon’s market initiatives for Facilities engineering and consulting services.
- Demonstrate strong communication, time management, and adaptability to shifting priorities.
- Serve as a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in building enclosure consulting, including condition assessments, destructive investigations, system diagnostics, and remedial design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or NCARB Registered Architect (RA) required.
- B.S. in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Bachelor of Architecture; specialization in Building Science is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Qualifications
- Credentials such as CEM, Cx, RRC, RWC, REWC, or RBEC.
- Local market familiarity and client relationships.
- History of engagement in trade, client, or technical organizations.
- Ability to market and develop consulting service opportunities.
