Senior Environmental Engineer
About the role
This role offers an experienced environmental professional the opportunity to lead and grow an environmental practice in the Grand Rapids, Michigan market.
Responsibilities
- Lead environmental investigation, remediation, compliance, and permitting projects from planning through completion.
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of services.
- Oversee and review technical deliverables, including environmental reports, regulatory submittals, and design documents, to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Provide technical leadership in environmental engineering, environmental science, and remediation strategies.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable environmental regulations, including Part 201 and Part 213 requirements.
- Prepare, review, and lead proposal writing efforts to win new work and expand the practice.
- Drive business development initiatives by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and participating in client presentations and meetings.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Support and influence strategic growth of the local environmental practice in the Grand Rapids market.
- Mentor, coach, and develop staff, providing technical guidance and career development support.
- Collaborate with leadership to build a cohesive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment.
- Implement and uphold quality and risk management practices across all project work.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including civil and environmental engineers, to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute to regulatory reporting and technical report writing in compliance with applicable standards.
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to OSHA and HAZWOPER requirements on relevant projects.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience in environmental engineering or environmental science with a focus on investigation, remediation, compliance, and permitting.
- Proven ability in proposal writing, including developing scopes, budgets, and schedules for environmental projects.
- Strong project management skills, including managing scope, schedule, budget, and project deliverables.
- Working knowledge of Part 201 and Part 213 environmental regulations and their application to site investigation and remediation projects.
- Experience in environmental compliance and regulatory reporting.
- Proficiency in technical report writing for environmental and regulatory documents.
- Understanding of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Experience coordinating or working with civil and environmental engineering teams.
- Able to build and maintain client relationships and manage client expectations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with clients, regulators, and internal teams.
- Commitment to quality and risk management in project delivery.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training or ability to obtain it, as required for relevant project work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability and interest in pursuing licensure.
- Experience with chlorinated hydrocarbons investigation and remediation.
- Experience in contaminant investigation and site characterization.
- Background in civil engineering or environmental engineering, including coordination with civil design and Civil 3D workflows.
- Familiarity with Civil 3D or similar tools for collaboration with civil engineering teams.
- Experience engaging with regulatory agencies and supporting permitting processes.
- Prior experience mentoring and developing junior staff in a consulting environment.
- Interest in or experience with employee-owned company structures and participation in ownership opportunities.
Work Environment
The role is based in the Grand Rapids, Michigan office, which currently includes a team of approximately 13 employees, fostering a close-knit and collaborative environment. The position follows a hybrid work schedule that typically includes two days per week in the office, providing a balance of in-person collaboration and remote work flexibility. You will work closely with leadership and multidisciplinary teams, including civil and environmental engineers, using modern engineering and reporting tools to deliver high-quality environmental solutions. Fieldwork may be required for investigation and remediation projects, with adherence to OSHA and HAZWOPER safety standards. Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $115,000.00 - $135,000.00/yr.
