Senior Engineer I - Applications

Microchip is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to join the USB and Networking business unit (UNG). Responsibilities

• Develop and support evaluation platform PCBs for PCIe and USB products.
• Support Linux, Windows, and RTOS drivers for Microchip USB/PCIe to Ethernet bridges and PCIe switch products.
• Plan and coordinate development/sustaining maintenance for Windows, Linux, RTOS, and MacOS drivers.
• Develop collateral such as application notes, data sheets, reference designs, and other materials for new product development.
• Develop and present technical training (e.g., webinars, hands-on workshops) to customers, sales, and field application engineers.
• Provide direct technical support to sales, field application engineers, and key strategic customers.
• Work in a team environment, interacting with Design, Product/Test, and Marketing teams.
• Work with Marketing and Sales to identify new applications and market spaces, assisting in the definition of new products.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent discipline with 5 years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience with PCIe, Ethernet, and high-speed signaling technologies.
• Work experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, etc.
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality engineering documentation.
• Strong understanding of C/C++, scripting languages like Python, and shell.
• Strong understanding of electrical system design, including mixed-signal circuits.
• Basic understanding of embedded software/firmware design.
• Basic understanding of Linux development and the developer community.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Experience in technical training development and presentation.
• Experience in direct customer service and support.
• Experience working with high-speed signals such as USB, PCIe, Ethernet, etc.
• Experience designing electrical circuits, system design, or reference designs.
• Experience with software-based PCB design.
• Experience programming in embedded assembly and Python.
• Experience working with lab equipment like function generators, power supplies, and oscilloscopes.
• Experience with hardware and microcontroller-based designs.
• Experience troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

Schedule

• Travel time: 0% - 25%.

Physical requirements: 80% sitting, 10% walking, 10% standing.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $205,000, dependent on job location, skills, and experience.
