Senior Engineer, Cart & Checkout

About the role

The Senior Engineer in the Checkout Team will build, manage, and enhance Conversion systems and other related services. They will work closely with the product and operations teams to solve challenges in areas such as Cart, Checkout, Tax, Fees, and Pricing.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend REST API services using Golang, Python, Redis, Postgres, and Kafka in a microservices architecture.
• Collaborate with product and operations teams to address complex technical challenges and performance issues.
• Ensure the reliability and performance of production services and participate in on-call production support rotations.
• Work with third-party services to optimize backend systems for latency, performance, and scalability.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience with a programming language like Golang (preferred), Python, Java, or C/C++.
• Experience designing, developing, testing (unit/integration/etc.), deploying, and maintaining backend REST API services with a strong focus on performance and latency.
• Comfortable working with SQL databases (Postgres preferred).
• Active participation in the design process to build efficient, scalable, and maintainable architecture.
• Experience diagnosing and solving complex technical problems and performance bottlenecks using data.
• Self-driven and outcome-oriented, willing to take ownership of production services.
• Passionate about learning, mentoring, and helping others grow.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining systems that integrate with third-party services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Go Programming Language, and Microservices Architecture.

Skills

• Experience with backend system optimization for latency, performance, and scalability.

Schedule

Hybrid team members have the following in-office expectations: Hybrid roles in Birmingham, AL typically work in-office at least 2 days per week, with core in-office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hybrid roles in Minneapolis, MN typically work in-office at least 1 day per week on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Hybrid roles in San Francisco, CA typically work in-office at least 1 day per week between Monday and Thursday. Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis.
