Senior Engineer, Cart & Checkout
About the role
The Senior Engineer in the Checkout Team will build, manage, and enhance Conversion systems and other related services. They will work closely with the product and operations teams to address challenges in areas such as Cart, Checkout, Tax, Fees, and Pricing.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend REST API services using Golang, Python, Redis, Postgres, and Kafka in a microservices architecture.
- Collaborate with product and operation teams to solve complex technical problems and performance bottlenecks.
- Ensure the reliability and performance of production services and participate in on-call production support rotations.
- Take ownership of production services and collaborate effectively with fellow engineers, product managers, and partner teams to deliver impactful solutions.
- Optimize backend systems for latency, performance, and scalability.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience with a programming language like Golang (preferred), Python, Java, or C/C++.
- Experience designing, developing, testing (unit/integration/etc.), deploying, and maintaining backend REST API services with a strong focus on performance and latency.
- Comfortable working with SQL databases (Postgres preferred).
- Active participation in the design process to build efficient, scalable, and maintainable architecture.
- Experience diagnosing and solving complex technical problems and performance bottlenecks using data.
- Self-driven and outcome-oriented, willing to take ownership of production services.
- Passionate about learning, mentoring, and helping others grow.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining systems that integrate with third-party services.

Employees will be eligible to receive discretionary vacation for exempt team members, paid holidays throughout the calendar year, and paid sick leave. Other compensation includes eligibility for an annual bonus and the potential for restricted stock units based on role.
Pay
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Hybrid roles in Birmingham, AL typically work in-office at least 2 days per week, with core in-office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hybrid roles in Minneapolis, MN typically work in-office at least 1 day per week on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Hybrid roles in San Francisco, CA typically work in-office at least 1 day per week between Monday and Thursday. Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis.
