The Building People, LLC seeks a Senior Energy Program Manager to lead energy management, auditing, and mechanical systems assessment support for federal clients.

About the role

Oversee energy programs, coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, manage client communications, and ensure delivery of high-quality technical products aligned with federal energy mandates and agency priorities. The ideal candidate will bring senior-level experience supporting federal facilities, with Department of Defense or Department of War experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver ASHRAE Level II energy audits, including utility analysis, site investigation, energy conservation measure development, savings calculations, and audit reporting
  • Perform mechanical system assessments for federal or large institutional facilities, including HVAC, central plants, building controls, and related infrastructure
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client communications for energy or facility engineering programs
  • Develop training, briefings, dashboards, or executive-level reports on energy efficiency, resilience, risk mitigation, and sustainability topics

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing or delivering energy, facilities, mechanical systems, or engineering programs
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 25–50% travel; must be able to attend in-person meetings in the Washington DC area within a 2-day notice
  • Physically able to climb overhead or crawl under spaces, work at heights, and lift up to 35 pounds at times
  • Background investigation and additional checks required for system access

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal customers, especially Department of Defense or Department of War
  • Certified Energy Manager certification
  • Experience with smart building technologies, building automation systems, energy information systems, or facility performance analytics
  • Professional Engineer license, LEED credential, or additional energy-related certifications

Skills

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, verbal communication, and technical writing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related tools for reporting, analysis, scheduling, and program management
  • Team-oriented leader able to coordinate engineers, analysts, building specialists, subcontractors, and client stakeholders
  • Familiarity with federal energy mandates, reporting requirements, energy resilience priorities, and facility sustainability objectives
