Senior Energy and Utilities Technician

What You'll be Doing:
Perform building and HVAC system commissioning for new construction, existing buildings, and retrofit projects across campus. Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), mechanical, and electrical systems to ensure they operate safely, efficiently, and as designed.
Use building automation systems (BAS), computers, meters, monitoring equipment, and diagnostic tools to identify system issues and verify performance. Perform functional testing, adjust controls, calibrate equipment, and document results to ensure optimal system operation and energy efficiency.
Follow established safety procedures and select the appropriate tools, instruments, and testing methods required for each assignment. Work closely with commissioning consultants, Central Shops, Zone Maintenance, Engineering, Utilities, and Construction teams to support the installation, startup, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical and HVAC systems.
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
- High School diploma/GED
- 4+ years of experience with heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in a university or industrial setting
- Knowledge of electrical control systems; heating, venting and air conditioning units; fan coil units; chilled water and steam distribution equipment; fume hoods and both mechanical, direct digital controls and pneumatics
Skills Needed:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good oral and written communication skills and mechanical aptitude
- Must proficiently use word processor and spreadsheet programs
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret technical material
- Use various formulas to calculate proper system settings as needed
- Ability to read and interpret various types of blueprints and control schematics
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints along with interpreting sequence of operation
- Must be able to lift and carry 10-25 lbs. frequently, and up to 40 lbs. or more occasionally
