About the role
The Senior Electrophysics (IR/Electro-Optical/Visual) Engineer position is within Phantom Works’ Technology Base business unit, specifically the Advanced Command & Control, Communications, Computing, and Cyber-defense (AC5) organization. The AC5 unit focuses on connecting, developing, integrating, and demonstrating cross-domain capabilities for Boeing Defense, Space & Security platforms, products, and systems. The IRMA project, part of AC5, aims to develop and integrate advanced technologies to support airborne platforms.
Responsibilities
- Assists in developing and documenting requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare, and other electromagnetic systems and components.
- Conducts integrated systems testing to validate performance of designs against requirements. Collects data on supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance with requirements. Supports project management by gathering project status data.
- Gathers information to support development of sections of proposals to support development of new business.
- Works independently and leads/mentors subordinate engineers.
- Excel in multi-discipline problem solving capabilities.
- Adapt or formulate new methods to solve wide range of system development, test, and integration problems.
- Prototype/develop algorithm capabilities in MATLAB or Python (C++ familiarity preferred).
- Leverage detailed knowledge of IR domain (environment, sensor, and survivability modeling).
- Utilize MODTRAN, image processing, HW/SW integration, sensor modeling, guidance & optimization methods, tools, and processes.
- Analyze flight test data (IRST, radiometry, lab-based, etc.)
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
- 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
- Experience/knowledge of communicating and interacting with senior project engineers.
- Experience/knowledge of working with classified technologies and programs.
- Experience across the advanced technology/rapid prototyping development cycle through Program of Record (PoR) transition (requirements development through design, development, integration, test, and release).
- Experience in a DoD operational capacity of classified technologies/capabilities, including customer flight test, employment & sustainment.
- Familiarity with advanced User Interface/User eXperience (UI/UX) technologies for presentation of information for real-time situational awareness and pilot guidance cues.
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement; 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience; 10 + years of survivability modeling & simulation and/or EO/IR sensor development/processing experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: 10 + years’ experience in working with classified technologies and programs; 10 + years’ experience/knowledge of DoD Flight Test/Operational Exercise processes, customers and stakeholders; 10 + years’ experience/knowledge of advanced technology/rapid prototyping development cycle through Program of Record (PoR) transition; 10 + years’ experience/knowledge of DoD operational capacity of classified technologies/capabilities, including customer flight test, employment & sustainment; Familiarity with advanced User Interface/User eXperience (UI/UX) technologies for presentation of information for real-time situational awareness and pilot guidance cues.
Skills
- Knowledge of IR domain (environment, sensor, and survivability modeling).
- Proficiency in MATLAB or Python (C++ familiarity preferred).
