Senior Electrical Engineering Designer - Logistics

Progressive Companies · Detroit, MI · 1 wk ago
EngineeringFull-time

About the Role

As an Electrical Engineering Designer III, you will run the electrical design on your own set of projects, from the first site walk through the last field question. This includes building power system models, running studies, writing specifications, and taking the design through code and agency review. You will also review the work of outside consultants, other in-house disciplines, and junior designers you mentor.

This is the level where you transition from being handed a scope to setting it yourself. You will write work plans, lead project meetings, and make technical decisions with minimal supervision across multiple projects. Successful performance in this role can lead to advancement toward Senior Electrical Engineer or a discipline lead position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design on assigned projects from concept through construction.
  • Produce contract documents, construction documents, and technical specifications in Revit and AutoCAD to the firm’s Performance Based Design standards.
  • Own the power system analysis behind your designs, including load flow, harmonic, and protective device coordination studies. Build power system models from field investigation and site data to ensure accuracy when the system is energized.
  • Write the work plan and schedule for each project, accounting for permitting and agency review timeframes, and deliver on client milestones on or ahead of schedule.
  • Take medium-to-high complexity systems through code and agency review, leading compliance reviews against NEC, IEC, and local amendments, and closing out client and governing agency comments.
  • Coordinate projects across in-house disciplines and outside consultants, organizing and leading project team meetings, verifying consultant work against your design, and resolving coordination conflicts before documents are finalized.
  • Run construction administration with minimal supervision, including answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawing submittals, issuing clarifications, and conducting field visits to confirm built work matches design intent.
  • Backstop quality by reviewing calculations, specifications, and junior staff drawings, flagging inconsistencies with actionable fixes, and contributing to Lessons Learned.
  • Mentor junior designers through technical training, drawing reviews, and day-to-day guidance to prepare them for independent design work.

Benefits

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) — you hold a stake in the work you deliver.
  • Comprehensive benefits, including an award-winning wellness program.
  • Hybrid work schedule and summer hours.
  • Profit-sharing and employee stock ownership plan (ESOP).
  • Paid service-learning hours for community engagement and corporate sponsorship for community organizations.
  • Continuing education, mentorship, and growth opportunities.
