About the role
Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to work on project teams creating world-class solar power generation designs for new projects in various locations. The Senior Electrical Engineer will collaborate throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion, including collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to develop equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, cable routing, communications systems design, grounding design, equipment selection, and equipment specifications.
- Prepare electrical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQs), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
- Review electrical equipment vendor drawings and data, interfacing with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning.
- Manage change orders effectively.
- Perform cable ampacity and trench design using software packages like CYMCAP, ETAP, or AmpCalc.
- Model electrical systems using software packages like ETAP or SKM for generating electrical reports including short circuit analysis, reactive power and load flow analysis, and arc flash hazard analysis.
- Model grounding system design using software packages including CDEGs and WinIGS.
- Apply expert knowledge of electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects, finding non-standard design solutions.
- Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and project-related data to verify corrections within multiple CAD-related software.
- Perform quality reviews of construction administration, coordinating with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and testing of electrical systems.
- Lead field inspections, installation, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors, and develop new business opportunities.
- Ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
- Report on project performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the electrical engineering practice.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes.
- Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years of electrical engineering experience.
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of electrical engineering experience.
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of electrical engineering experience.
- EPC project experience preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
- Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
Pay
$160,000.00 - $240,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
