About the role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join project teams and create world-class solar power generation designs for new projects across various locations. The Senior Electrical Engineer will collaborate throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans to meet budget constraints, design factors, and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion, including collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to develop equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, cable routing, communications systems design, grounding design, equipment selection, and specifications.
- Prepare electrical equipment specifications: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQs), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
- Review electrical equipment vendor drawings and data, interfacing with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning.
- Manage change orders effectively.
- Perform cable ampacity and trench design using software packages like CYMCAP, ETAP, or AmpCalc.
- Model electrical systems using software packages like ETAP or SKM for short circuit analysis, reactive power and load flow analysis, and arc flash hazard analysis.
- Model grounding system design using software packages including CDEGs and WinIGS.
- Apply expert knowledge of electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
- Develop non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
- Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and project-related data to verify corrections within multiple CAD-related software.
- Oversee construction administration, coordinating with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and testing of electrical systems.
- Lead field inspections, installations, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with existing clients, customers, contractors, and develop new business opportunities.
- Ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts, identifying key pursuits.
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve financial performance targets.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
- Report on project performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the electrical engineering practice.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes.
- Facilitate effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of electrical engineering experience.
- EPC project experience preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
- Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
Pay
Compensation range: $160,000.00–$240,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
