Senior Engineer - Solar

We offer services at all stages of the project lifecycle, with a particular focus on core services such as energy yield and resource assessments, site layouts and optimization, concept design, feasibility studies, technical due diligence, and Owner’s Engineer (OE) scopes of work. This role will report to the Head of Renewables and involves collaborating closely with other renewable energy sector teams, technical discipline leads, and WSP’s Middle East offices. A key element of this role is contributing to the development of a close-knit, high-performing specialist team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct energy yield and resource assessments.
- Perform site layouts and optimization, concept design, and feasibility studies.
- Provide technical due diligence for lenders on IPP transactions.
- Act as Technical Advisor or Lender’s Technical Advisor (LTA) for defined scopes of work.
- Prepare conceptual designs for utility-scale solar plants.
- Develop RFP, MFS, and tender bid packages.
- Support project development and Owner’s Engineer (OE) scopes, including tendering, contracting, construction monitoring, and technical advisory services.
- Handle global clients and collaborate smoothly with cross-regional teams.
Requirements
- A degree in a relevant engineering field, ideally with a graduate qualification in electrical engineering and/or renewable energy, and 10 to 15 years of experience.
- Experience delivering solar PV projects, preferably within the Middle East and internationally on utility-scale projects, with expertise in at least one of WSP’s core services.
- Knowledge of solar PV technology, including different types of modules, trackers, and mounting structures (MMS), and the project development process.
- Experience conducting Energy Yield Assessments, simulations for configuration optimization, and near/far shading analysis.
- Ability to estimate losses and uncertainties accurately for modeling purposes.
- Expertise in equipment sizing, technology selection, and site suitability assessments for large-scale solar PV plants.
- Experience in cost optimization and capitalization for engineering of both AC and DC balance of system (BOS).
- Proficiency in preparing technical specifications for DC systems.
- Strong design knowledge in solar plant layouts, tray layouts, cable routing, ICR block layouts, and switchyard layouts for large-scale solar power plants.
- Review and approval of design calculations and drawings.
- Expertise in transformers, inverters, transmission, and other major electrical components.
- Experience in engineering monitoring and control related to project setup, pre-bid engineering, tendering, and design engineering.
- Experience managing large-scale utility projects, developing client relationships, and working in a consultancy environment.
- Optional: Experience in business development and/or winning work.

- Proficiency in software tools such as PVSyst, PV Case, AutoCad, Helioscope, and Google SketchUp.
