About the role

Burns & McDonnell is a global leader in high-tech building design and construction, with a strong presence in the mission-critical data center sector. This role is part of the Mission Critical team, which works on projects involving healthcare, industrial sites, and other mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex problems requiring adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Lead design, planning, and client coordination activities for high, medium, and low voltage electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Design electrical systems/equipment to ensure a reliable and safe environment for mission critical operations.
  • Advise clients on electrical systems/requirements to meet their needs and comply with applicable codes.
  • Maintain compliance with design documents during the installation of designed equipment/systems.
  • Conduct fault studies and load flow analysis to ensure system reliability.
  • Develop design criteria for protective device coordination, relay applications, medium voltage transformers, switchgear, medium and low voltage distribution.
  • Develop and/or lead the design of electrical master plans for facilities including reliable power distribution, motor control centers, energy-efficient lighting systems, communications and telecom routing, instrumentation and controls for HVAC systems, fire-alarm interface, building level uninterrupted power systems (UPS), and engine generators.
  • Review electrical designs and specifications for equipment or systems being purchased or fabricated.
  • Provide electrical design direction and manage resources on multi-discipline projects.
  • Develop concept studies, designs, and narratives.
  • Identify, recruit, and manage resources to meet business needs.
  • Perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Travel as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program, with 7 years of electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of electrical engineering experience, with EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE standards.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program, with 7 years of electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program, with successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, with 6 years of electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
