Job Summary

TYLin is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Electrical Engineer with expertise in traction power and transportation electrical systems to support the planning, design, and delivery of complex infrastructure projects across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Technical Leadership & Design:

    • Lead the design and delivery of transportation electrical systems for infrastructure projects across multiple market sectors.
    • Design and oversee electrical infrastructure including: Traction power substations (TPSS), Medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, Utility service and interconnections, Rectifier and transformer systems, Switchgear and protective relaying, Grounding and bonding systems, Backup power systems, Electrical infrastructure supporting transportation facilities, stations, maintenance facilities, tunnels, and related assets.
    • Perform or oversee power system analyses including: Load flow, Short-circuit, Voltage drop, Protective device coordination, Arc flash studies.
    • Develop technical specifications, calculations, reports, and construction documents.
    • Conduct design reviews and maintain quality assurance and quality control standards.
  • Project Delivery:

    • Serve as Engineer of Record, where applicable.
    • Cook up with civil, structural, mechanical, roadway, bridge, rail, systems, and utility disciplines.
    • Interface with utility providers, public agencies, and project stakeholders.
    • Support construction through RFIs, submittal reviews, field inspections, and technical issue resolution.
  • Client Development & Leadership:

    • Support technical proposals and project pursuits across TYLin's Transportation practice.
    • Participate in client meetings and presentations.
    • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the electrical engineering team.
    • Help strengthen TYLin's transportation infrastructure practice throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

What You'll Bring

  • Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license (DC, MD, or VA preferred, or ability to obtain reciprocity).
    • 10+ years of progressive experience designing electrical systems for transportation or other large-scale infrastructure projects.
    • Experience with one or more of the following: Transportation electrification, Traction power systems, Utility power distribution, Transportation facilities, Passenger rail or transit systems, Highway or tunnel electrical systems, Airport electrical infrastructure.
    • Strong knowledge of: Medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, Protective relaying and coordination, Grounding and bonding, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and applicable industry standards.
    • Experience using ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar power system modeling software is preferred.
  • Skills:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Hybrid flexibility; candidates should be based in or willing to support projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

  • Pay Equity:

    • The base compensation range of $120,000- $170,000 annually for this position and local market.
