Position Summary

The Sr. Electrical Engineer designs and develops advanced electrical subsystems for the MEVION S250 proton therapy platform. This senior engineering role leads electrical design tasks with a high degree of autonomy and provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers. The position plays a key role in ensuring electrical systems meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements across the product lifecycle. The role spans product design, prototyping, testing, refining and troubleshooting.

Essential Functions

  • Leads the design and development of electrical subsystems including power electronics, control circuitry, and high-voltage systems.

  • Performs circuit analysis, schematic design, and PCB layout review for complex electrical assemblies.

  • Develops and executes electrical system test plans, failure analysis, and design verification protocols.

  • Authors and maintains electrical design documentation including schematics, BOMs, and engineering change orders.

  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers on electrical design methodology and standards.

  • Collaborates with mechanical, software, and physics engineering teams to ensure electrical subsystem integration.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves electrical issues during manufacturing, commissioning, and field operation.

  • Safeguards compliance with applicable safety standards including IEC 60601 and relevant EMC requirements.

Required Education, Training, And Experience

  • BS EE required with 10+ years experience, or Master’s degree with 7+ years experience, in a product design and development engineering role for a complex product.

  • Proven experience in performing all design and development stages including schematic capture, layout, design, verification and documentation.

  • Experience with high-voltage power electronics and precision analog/digital.

  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD) and circuit simulation software.

  • Strong understanding and experience in reliable AC/DC power distribution systems design.

  • Self-sufficiency in planning and driving projects to conclusion, as well as meeting performance and cost objectives in a timely fashion with a high level of innovation, quality and efficiency.

  • The ability to easily transition from one project to the next with little direct supervision.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in the design and manufacture of Medical Capital Equipment systems or another regulated product development environment (aerospace, defense).

  • Familiarity with IEC 60601 and medical device electrical safety standards.

  • Experience with RF system.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage modern AI tools in innovative ways to improve engineering effectiveness, solve technical challenges, or create business value.

Physical And Environmental Considerations

  • Regular standing and walking in lab or engineering areas.

  • Typical office environment.

  • Frequent use of hands to handle tools, instruments, and small parts.

  • Occasional lifting or moving of equipment and materials up to 35 lbs (16 kg).

  • Occasional bending, stooping, or reaching to access work surfaces and equipment.

  • Combination of office and lab/engineering environments.

  • Work around equipment, tools, and test setups with moderate noise.

  • Use of appropriate PPE (e.g., safety glasses, lab coats, gloves) as required by task and safety procedures.

  • May need to work in the vicinity of high magnetic fields.
