Overview
Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer for its Oak Ridge, TN project office. This role supports Nuclear Services and Technology (NST) projects related to the Department of Energy (DOE) and various commercial and private clients. The NST team specializes in designing prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment, and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. Specialization also includes the design of moderate hazard non-reactor nuclear facilities and facility upgrades.
What You'll Do
- Experience and passion for electrical and power design
- Nimbleness in accepting a wide range of assignments, both nuclear and non-nuclear
- Enjoyment of a team design environment
- Conceptual and detailed design of low voltage and medium voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, motor control systems, process equipment, and instrumentation
- Technical guidance and reviews of fabrication and construction documents
- Interface with clients during meetings and presentations
- Design reviews for compliance with electrical codes
- Recommend, communicate, and coordinate design changes with clients and other disciplines
- Perform project quality assurance/quality control, including independent technical reviews and interdisciplinary coordination reviews
- Create and manage schedules and budget estimates for electrical design, fabrication, and construction aspects of projects
- Supervise, lead, manage, and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers
- Solve problems, guide, and mentor staff
- Audit employee performance
- Participate in hiring processes for new electrical staff
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- Twelve (12) years of progressive experience
- Professional Engineering License required: State of Tennessee PE (or ability to obtain TN license)
- Nuclear-related design experience (NQA-1, NRTL, etc.)
- Electrical calculations (power distribution, fault circuit analysis, lighting, grounding)
- Experience working in a DOE environment
- Working knowledge of CAD-based design platforms
- Knowledge of NEC, ISA, IEEE regulatory codes
- Experience with client projects for this position
