Senior Electrical Engineer 2 - Mission Critical

About the Role
This is a design engineering position that offers a variety of challenging opportunities in Electrical Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity for career advancement. Support electrical design engineering efforts on a multi-disciplined project design team.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for production of engineering calculations/analyses and engineering reports
- Prepare design inputs for drawing production including electrical site plans, power and lighting plans, one-line diagrams, assembly drawings, conduit and wire run schedules, wiring diagrams, elementary diagrams
- Apply electrical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components
- Produce procurement specifications and construction specifications
- Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs
- Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers
- Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation
- Guide when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
- Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify
- Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
- BSEE or MSEE degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 7+ years of progressive responsible experience in electrical engineering ideally in a nuclear environment
- Experience with producing engineering designs for low to medium voltage electrical distribution systems and instrumentation wiring; experience with more than one type of system a plus
- Experience with NEC, UL508, electrical codes, and IES Lighting Handbook
- Proficiency or ability to learn load flow and/or arc flash analysis software such as ETAP and/or SKM Power Tools
- Proficiency or ability to learn lighting analysis software such as Visual and AGI32
Skills
- Professional Engineer License (PE) – valued but not required
- DOE experience preferred; commercial or Navy Field engineering and construction experience – valued but not required
- Minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields – valued but not required

Pay
Compensation Range: $100,019 - $152,807
Individuals may also be eligible to participate in our yearly discretionary bonus.
About the Business Unit
Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) laboratories and sites. This includes designing facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste, as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material.
